The Disney Parks, Experience and Production division has recently informed that around 28,000 employees will be laid off from various divisions this week. The divisions include retail, gaming, cruise line, publishing and travel planning.
What could be the reason behind such massive layoffs? Well, it is very simple. The reason behind such step by Disney theme parks in the United States is, due to current coronavirus pandemic is expected to cost around 3500 Disneyland hotel and restaurant workers their jobs and is projected to affect 400 Imagineers.
As per the report, Disney California Adventure and Disneyland closed in March and remained closed until the further guidelines from the authorities. On the other hand, Disney theme parks located in Florida, France, Japan and China have reopened with a limit on attendance capacity.
Joss D’Amaro, Disney parks boos in a letter to all the employees, said that the company initially hoped that the condition would be short-lived and they will recover faster, now the condition is quite different.
Well, the company has not informed about the exact count of layoffs, but it is estimated that it would cross the 5000 mark. However, it is also expected that that count would rise further. The notifications have sent to executives, salaried and non-union employees.
