Disney, K-Pop Second Life’s Dive Into The Metaverse

  • Disney plans to enter the metaverse, as it patented the virtual world simulator in a real-world venue. Although, Disney hasn’t planned anything to use simulators in the near future.
  • Animal Concerts is a concert organizer for metaverse that partnered with Kakao’s Klaytn project to bring more exposure to the nation’s entertainment industry.
  • Second Life’s founder returns back to the project with the team of his organization, High Fidelity, to execute the project’s entry into the metaverse.

Several projects have now started various initiatives to somehow enter the metaverse, following the event of Facebook’s parent organization rebranding itself with a step towards the virtual space. All new project initiatives to enter metaverse include numerous activities to understand what this virtual space could offer, from testing limits to buying properties and hosting events in the metaverse.

Disney’s Plans For Metaverse Experience

Disney recently got a patent approved for some virtual world simulators at a real-world locale. Disney is the popular entertainment company responsible for some of the best-known theme parks. However, Disney does not have any plans yet to use these simulators any time soon, reported Los Angeles Times. The application presented by Disney hinted that the guests of Disney World and Disneyland might feature metaverse charisma at some or several Hong Kong, United States, France, Japan, and China parks.

The technology would be brought into effect by using mobile phones of visitors to track them and creating and projecting 3D effects at nearby places in the physical world. These projections would include several objects and walls in the park. As per the application of patent by Disney, its shift into the metaverse will serve users with immersive and quite realistic 3D virtual experience individually and would not require users to use an AR (Augmented Reality) viewing device.

K-pop In Metaverse

Animal Concerts, the metaverse concert organizer, revealed on Monday that it had made an agreement with Kakao’s Klaytn network, the South Korean unicorn. This deal aims to grow the exposure for the entertainment industry in the country. The CEO of Animal Concerts, Colin Fitzpatrick, explained that the primary goals of the Klatyn network are the metaverse and NFTs.

While pointing to scalability problems, he said that the technical restrictions are a problem that affects the number of individuals who can join the concert in the virtual space. Fitzpatrick aims to build several virtual locales on various metaverse platforms to create a network for hosting events of diverse talents, simultaneously involving K-pop artists.

Second Life’s Entry Into The Metaverse

On Thursday, the organization behind the online virtual world – Second Life, Linden Lab, revealed that the project would be rejoined by the founder, Philip Rosedale, as a strategic advisor with the team members of metaverse at High Fidelity, a VR company headquartered in San Francisco. As per Linden Lab, old talent joining new talent would indeed feature the move of Second Life in the metaverse. Rosedale said that the virtual worlds don’t have to be dystopias.

Second Life was launched back in 2003 and was one of the earliest projects to serve virtual world experiences, even before the connectivity of social media platforms. Rosedale stepped down from the position of CEO in 2008 and later founded High Fidelity in 2013. Rosedale returning to the project with the team of his organization, High Fidelity, might spot a milestone to introduce new ideas of metaverse with a similar theme onto existing platforms.
