68% Participants Begin Investing In Cryptocurrencies Only Last Year: Huobi Group Reports

  • Huobi Group, a world-leading company in the digital economy industry, surveyed more than 3,000 people in December last year. The survey results revealed that around 68% of participants began investing in cryptocurrencies just last year.
  • The survey also disclosed that more than 50% of participants were cognizant of the emerging trends such as NFTs and Metaverse while 25% seemed to know about the DeFi or decentralized finance ecosystem.
  • According to Jeff Mei – Director of Global Strategy at Huobi Group – there is still some time before crypto becomes mainstream. He believes proper crypto regulation worldwide can attract more investors in the space.

Huobi Group, the operator of major crypto exchange Huobi, released research that shows roughly 7 in 10 crypto asset holders started investing in cryptocurrencies only last year. However, the survey also estimated that despite the growing interest in the field, approx. 25% of the investors feel eventually everything is going to collapse as it’s all a “scam.”

Over 3,000 people participated in the poll conducted by the Huobi Group in mid-December 2021, the results however were released on January 13.

Every third participant was found to be a digital asset holder whereas further analysis disclosed that the majority(68%) of investors have entered the market just last year. While only 9% said that they have been investing in cryptocurrencies for more than four years. 

The survey also revealed the different range of amounts people invested in, showing 46% of the participants have reserved $ 1000 or less in the crypto assets. While a rather smaller percentage in comparison, 25% of inventors, allocated between the range of $1,000 and $10,000 in the asset class. 

Bitcoin And Altcoin A “Scam” : Every Fourth Participant In Survey

People are also becoming more and more aware of the emerging trends such as NFTs and Metaverse, over 50% admitted to being aware of the buzzwords. At the same time, only 25% are cognizant of the DeFi ecosystem.

Many participants seem to believe that the virtual assets hold the potential of transforming the current system, however, most fail to picture a bright future for the asset class. 42% consider crypto-assets as “too risky,” while 34% are worried regarding the lack of proper regulation in the industry.

Every fourth participant believes bitcoin and the altcoins to be a “scam/bubble,” that is eventually going to collapse.

Jeff Mei – Director of Global Strategy at Huobi Group – believes there is still a long period till crypto becomes mainstream. Further, predicting the future he said a clear stance on crypto regulations worldwide can act as a catalyst in the rapid growth of investors in crypto assets.

26% American Crypto Investors Already Own Bitcoin

Around a month ago, Grayscale investments reported similar research, according to which 26% of American crypto investors are already bitcoin owners. Around 25% of them have entered the crypto market in the last year.

Additionally, almost 60% suggested that the holders’ percentage will increase even more as they said they are interested in investing in cryptocurrencies

Previously, Michael Sonnenshein – CEO of Grayscale Investments – remarked that the 2021 Bitcoin Investor Study results also hints toward the fact that more investors envision a long-term value through the addition of Bitcoin and other altcoins in their investment portfolio.
