- Tech behemoth Microsoft announced yesterday that they will be acquiring gaming company Activision Blizzard in a whopping $68.7 Billion all-cash deal.
- Activision Blizzard is the same name that gave us games like Modern Warfare, Black Ops, Warzone and more.
- This deal will play a crucial role in development of metaverse. Deal will acquire rights of iconic franchises like Call of Duty.
In a tweet yesterday, Activision Blizzard made it clear that they will be joining Xbox family. Deal hasn’t been closed yet, as it is a significant transaction and these types of deals take time.
Future Defining Partnership
In a latest announcement, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed the upcoming deal with Activision Blizzard for a whopping $68.7 Billion. This deal will provide rights to iconic gaming franchises like WoW, Call of Duty. Organization will also acquire Candy Crush maker KING.
Microsoft will purchase Activision Blizzard for a $95/share price. It will become third biggest gaming organization as soon as the deal closes, behind Sony and Tencent.
Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick will stay, and his team will concentrate on pushing attempts to make organization’s culture more robust and boost growth of business. Microsoft Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer will be reported upon closing of deal.
As per Satya Nadella, gaming is most spirited category in entertainment industry today, and will be crucial for development of metaverse in future. Microsoft is making investments in top tier content, cloud and community to enter a new generation of gaming, putting creators and players on priority and making secure gaming.
As per Microsoft Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer, Activision Blizzard is loved by gamers worldwide, and organization has faith in creative teams and believes that they’ll do their best.
Microsoft is looking to develop a future where users can enjoy games digitally, no matter where they are.
Where’s This Going?
Connecting all these communities is a next step ahead. Disney, Sony, Amazon, Tencent, Google, Facebook, and many more have their own initiatives and aspirations regarding metaverse.
Surfacing as well as established organizations have a vision for developing digital worlds, full of professionally generated content, affluent social connections and user-generated content.
In Activision Blizzard announcement blog, they said, their talent and games are essential elements for development of an affluent metaverse. The Organization have always lured best of game makers and developed best of games, laying hands on opportunity with determination, focus, inspiration, and passion.
As of this writing, Activision Blizzard was riding the bulls, following the announcement, and was trending at $82.32, up by 25.88% in previous 24 hours.
What to Expect Now?
For Call of Duty and World of Warcraft lovers like me, this move has raised hopes for developing a metaverse similar to games like Warzone and realms of WoW. Imagine what it would be like to actually be standing in middle of Verdansk or Bleeding Hollow in a virtual reality, instead of just watching it on screen.
Activision’s COD has the most extensive fan base in terms of FPS gaming, and the move has created excitement in community. It is also possible some franchises may become P2E from F2P, who knows. Honestly, I would love to earn money through a ‘Kingslayer’ in Warzone.
