UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou To Get Half Of His Salary In BTC

  • Francis Ngannou, UFC Heavyweight Champion announced that he will get 50% of his UFC 270 prize in BTC via Cash App. He will be fighting off against Ciryl Gane on Jan. 23.

UFC Heavyweight Champion, Francis Ngannou disclosed that he will receive half of his UFC 270 prize in the form of Bitcoin or BTC through Cash App.

On Jan 23, the French-Cameroonian MIMA fighter will be facing off against Ciryl Gane and preparing to earn a guaranteed amount of $750,000. On Jan 18, Ngannou in a tweet said that he has done extensive research on Bitcoin and is confident that the virtual asset is the future of the money. “Bitcoin is valuable, secure, and no one can mess with it,” he added.

Honda Center in Anaheim, California is finalized as the venue for the faceoff and can accommodate an 18,000+ audience. In Ngannou’s title reign, it’s his first defense. 

In what’s going to be an exciting fight, both the fighters are expected to perform the best of their careers and the winner will get recognition as heavyweight champion for the upcoming several years. The match is going to get broadcast on ESPN + PPV in the US. 

Cash App is going all out on the fight as it has announced a huge giveaway of $300,000 for everyone who posts on Twitter about the grand championship.

Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow in early December announced a giveaway of $500,000 in BTC to her followers on Twitter and Instagram in partnership with Cash App.

Ngannou is also not the first MMA fighter to receive his prize purse in BTC. Kevin Lee, in December, revealed that he will receive earnings from the Russia-based Eagle Fighting Championship in BTC.

Crypto Firms Targeting Mainstream Users Via Sport Partnership

Mainstream users are on the target of the billions of sports enthusiasts and crypto firms who are leveraging the power of a sport. 

Crypto.com, a crypto exchange based in Singapore, in one of the biggest crypto sports partnerships signed a deal worth $25 million with the Aussie Rules women’s division called the AFLW.

In Mid-November, Crypto.com secured a deal worth $700 million for rebranding the Staples Arena Los Angeles to the Crypto.com Arena for 20 years. The crypto exchange also partnered with Formula 1 and UFC in the months of July and June.

Cash App has also collaborated with many NFL players, including Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers, and Jr. Los Angeles Rams Odell Beckham. The collaboration will enable the players to receive their salary in BItcoin.

Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback bought an equity stake in FTX Trading and will take crypto as part of the endorsement deal. He is also an ambassador for the exchange. FTX has also signed deals with Miami Heat and Major League Baseball.
