GHOSTDAG is a consensus algorithm that extends Bitcoin's Nakamoto consensus to a directed acyclic graph structure. In Bitcoin, only one valid chain is kept and competing blocks are orphaned. GHOSTDAG instead orders all blocks, including those mined concurrently, into a coherent ledger using a greedy algorithm. This allows high block rates without the security tradeoffs that would normally accompany them in a linear chain model.
