Google Cloud launched a Web3 portal with testnet tools, blockchain data sets, and learning resources for developers. The crypto industry shared a mixed reaction to the development.
Update in the Google Cloud
Recently, Google Cloud has developed and introduced a new Web3 portal with resources for blockchain developers. This development provides data sets and tutorials for the creators of nonfungible tokens (NFT). Despite the development being done for the users of cryptography and blockchain, it still needs to receive a clear green signal from industry stakeholders.
No native #bitcoin and lightning support? Seems like an oversight to ignore the most important cryptocurrency

On April 25, Phil Geiger, Vice President of Product Marketing at Unchained, shared an X post stating, “No native Bitcoin and lightning support? Seems like an oversight to ignore the most important cryptocurrency.”
On April 26, another crypto trader showed his disapproval of the Google Cloud update by telling his 80,700 X followers, “Not impressed Google is way behind,”
Other actors in the industry were open to accepting the new development. Ivaibi Festor, founder of Mitroplus Labs, described the introduction of the Web3 portal on Google Cloud as a “comprehensive resource” in an X post shared on April 25.
According to the Google Cloud website, developers are allowed to access a range of products and receive testnet tokens to deploy and test their decentralized applications on the Ethereum testnets Sepolia and Holesky.
Moreover, it has introduced a learning program with practical tutorials on topics like the development of an NFT, the implementation of Web3 loyalty programs and how to secure digital assets with multi-party computations.
Background for the recent developments
This Web3 development came after several recent developments by Google in the Web industry. Most recently, Google expanded its features to allow users to search wallet balances around several blockchains, including Bitcoin, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optmisim, Polygon and Fantom.
At the start of the current year, Google updated its policies to allow certain crypto products to be advertised on major and all the popular search engines, including Bitcoin exchange-traded funds.
In the previous year, Google was found to be focusing on building partnerships to prepare for the Web3 portal launch this year.
Thus, in October 2023, Google Cloud’s BigQuery data warehouse was integrated with MultiverseX, with the objective of helping Web3 projects and users derive insights from powerful data analytics and artificial intelligence.
A month prior to this, in September 2023, Google’s BigQuery added eleven blockchain networks to its data warehouse. The list of eleven new networks includes Avalanche, Arbitrum, Cronos, Ethereum’s Gorli testnet, Fantom, Near, Optimism, Polkadot, Polygon’s mainnet, Polygon’s Mumbai testnet and Tron.
