PancakeSwap is an automated market maker and decentralised exchange that launched on the BNB Chain in September 2020. It was among the first major decentralised exchanges to gain significant traction on BNB Chain, attracting users seeking lower transaction fees than those prevalent on Ethereum at the time. The protocol operates using liquidity pools, where users contribute token pairs and receive a share of trading fees proportional to their deposit.
