How to read a crypto comparison

Comparing two cryptocurrencies is about more than price. A coin trading at a few cents can be far larger than one trading in the thousands — what matters is the whole picture. Here is what each metric in the table above tells you.

Market capitalisation

Price multiplied by circulating supply — the market’s total valuation of the asset. It is the single best measure of relative size, and far more meaningful than the price of one coin.

The price-per-coin trap

A lower unit price does not make a coin “cheaper” or more likely to 10×. A $0.10 coin with a huge supply can be worth more in total than a $100 coin with a tiny one. Always compare market caps, not sticker prices.

24-hour volume

How much of the asset changed hands in the last day. High volume means deep, liquid markets where you can enter and exit without moving the price much; thin volume is a red flag.

Fully diluted valuation (FDV)

What the market cap would be if the entire maximum supply were already in circulation. A large gap between market cap and FDV signals heavy future token unlocks that can dilute holders.

Circulating vs max supply

Circulating supply is what exists today; max supply is the hard cap (if any). “Supply issued” shows how much of the total is already out — a low figure means more inflation ahead.

All-time high & % from ATH

How far the price sits below its record. It frames risk and recovery potential, but a coin near its ATH is not automatically “expensive,” nor is one far below it a guaranteed bargain.

Frequently asked questions

How do you compare two cryptocurrencies?

Start with market capitalisation to judge relative size, then look at 24-hour volume for liquidity, supply and FDV for future dilution, and 7- and 30-day performance for momentum. This tool lays all of those side by side so you can weigh them together rather than fixating on price alone.

Is a coin with a lower price cheaper or a better buy?

No. Price per coin is meaningless without supply. A coin at $0.05 with 500 billion tokens can be worth far more in total than a coin at $500 with two million tokens. Compare market caps, not unit prices, to understand what an asset is really worth.

What does market cap actually tell me?

Market cap (price × circulating supply) is the market’s total valuation of a coin and the best single measure of its size and relative dominance. A larger market cap generally means more established, more liquid and less volatile — though never risk-free.

What is fully diluted valuation (FDV)?

FDV is the market cap a coin would have if its entire maximum supply were already circulating. If FDV is much higher than the current market cap, large amounts of tokens are still to be released, which can dilute existing holders over time.

Why does 24-hour volume matter?

Volume measures how much of an asset is being traded. Healthy volume means you can buy and sell near the quoted price; very low volume relative to market cap can mean wide spreads, slippage and manipulation risk.

Which is better, Bitcoin or Ethereum?

They serve different purposes: Bitcoin is a fixed-supply store of value, while Ethereum is a programmable platform for smart contracts and DeFi. “Better” depends on your goal — use the comparison above to weigh size, liquidity, supply model and momentum for yourself.

Where does the data come from and how current is it?

All figures come from CoinGecko’s public market data, covering the top 250 coins by market cap, and refresh roughly every two minutes. Sparklines show the last seven days of hourly prices.

Can I compare more than two coins?

This tool focuses on a clean two-coin, head-to-head comparison for clarity. To weigh a third coin, simply swap one of the two selections and the whole comparison updates instantly.
