Key Insights:
- Vitalik Buterin highlights the requirement of the sub-1-hour withdrawal time of Ethereum L2 solutions to enhance liquidity.
- Six Ethereum rollups, such as Base and Optimism, have been certified as Compliant at Stage 1
- The ZK proof systems are currently being developed at a rapid pace, with the possibility of decreasing withdrawal time and enhancing the L2 efficiency.
Ethereum is already on its path of scaling its network with the recently announced six rollups, achieving Stage 1 compliance. This milestone showed the increasing popularity of Ethereum layer-2 (L2) solutions.
Co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted his opinion on its growth and the future of scalability on the network.
Vitalik Buterin Shares Insights on Withdrawal Times
Vitalik Buterin discussed, in his most recent comments, the necessity of shortening withdrawal times. He also pinpointed the importance of zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs in the enhancement of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Such developments make the network more efficient and secure, and this comes with the realization of faster and more dependable transaction activities.

The Ethereum cofounder added,
“I consider this even more important than stage 2. Fast withdrawal times are important because waiting a week to withdraw is simply far too long for people, and even for intent-based bridging, the cost of capital becomes too high if the liquidity provider has to wait a week.”
For Ethereum L2 solutions, one of the key bottlenecks has been the time required to withdraw funds. With traditional optimistic rollups, the wait can be as long as a week, increasing capital costs.
Vitalik Buterin stated that it is necessary to get rid of the idea of using optimistic proof systems in order to have faster transactions and solutions.
Ethereum Vision for Stage 2 and Beyond
Putting Stage 1 compliance behind, Vitalik Buterin explained his vision of the future of Ethereum. Nevertheless, he stated that after Stage 2 passes, the withdrawal time will be reduced to one hour, and the attainment of 12 seconds of withdrawal time will be the next goal.
Vitalik Buterin also gave credit to the developments being done on rollups, but stated that there would be more research to further optimize the systems. Interoperability and scalability will improve in stage 2 but to achieve the full potential of Ethereum, withdrawal times have to be fast.
In the meantime, the co-founder who has publicly expressed concerns over the issue of privacy has recently cautioned that the centralized nature of the World project may threaten anonymity on the Internet.
However, Buterin emphasized the need to uphold the aspect of pseudonymity and warned against a system that has all activities being linked to one centralized ID.
Potential Paths to Fast Withdrawals
Earlier on, Vitalik Buterin suggested a two-pronged solution to effect swift withdrawals and maintain safety. Among his recommendations was the use of a hybrid between ZK and an optimistic proof system.
The model was able to synthesize the advantages of both ZK proofs (fast) and optimistic proofs (reliable) and became a solution to the withdrawal time problem in Ethereum.
Notably, the methodology that Vitalik Buterin applied is a mixture of ZK proofs and a trusted execution environment (TEE) to make certain that the system will be secure without sacrificing speed. This plan will minimize the trust assumptions that normally go together with multisignatures or MPC solutions.
By combining ZK, OP, and TEE systems, Buterin believes that Ethereum can achieve fast, trustless, and secure asset withdrawals.
Meanwhile, in the last month, Ethereum price has experienced a significant rally, climbing 45%, reaching $3,675. The top altcoin has demonstrated strong market momentum, with its market cap surpassing $443 billion.
Recently, ETH experienced a surge in accumulation, with whales and institutions buying up large amounts of the asset. Earlier on, a wallet purchased $300 million worth of ETH from Galaxy Digital’s OTC market, indicating strong institutional confidence.
