Dogecoin ETF May Be Imminent in the U.S.: Bloomberg Analyst

Key Insights:

  • Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas suggested a Dogecoin ETF could launch in the U.S. “as early as next week.”
  • REX Shares has officially filed an S-1 registration with the SEC for a spot Dogecoin ETF.
  • 40 Act ETFs, based on crypto-related equities or futures, may bypass regulatory hurdles that spot crypto ETFs face.
  • Dogecoin price remains steady around $0.2160 and braces for a breakout.

The most popular meme coin, Dogecoin (DOGE), is seriously moving towards Wall Street legitimacy. In a report, Bloomberg Analyst Eric Balchunas stated that a Dogecoin ETF may be rolled out in the U.S. as soon as the coming week.

The statement follows a recent surge of crypto ETF applications and a spurt of regulatory action, with more than 90 crypto-based ETF applications awaiting SEC approval.

The actual filing by the REX Shares provides fuel to this speculation. That’s because it filed a Form S-1 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to register “DOJE”, the first officially proposed spot Dogecoin ETF in the country.

As the buzz grows, the main concern is how this ETF will bypass the regulatory hurdles that other altcoin-based products were exposed to previously.

REX Shares Pursues the “40 Act” Route

In contrast to most crypto ETF issuers who use the standard Form S-1 and Form 19b-4 filings, REX Shares is seeking a product structure under the Investment Company Act of 1940 (also referred to as the 40 Act).

This is an alternative route that analysts describe as a regulatory workaround that is not frequently used by crypto. It allowed REX to launch its Solana Staking ETF (SSK) earlier in 2025. Thus, REX avoided a long process that Bitcoin and Ether ETFs followed.

The Dogecoin ETF would follow the same format. If that’s successful, it would significantly reduce the time to market. Analysts consider this to be possibly one of the reasons why the Bloomberg analyst is implying that the product might actually trade as early as next week.

Although REX Shares appears to have outrun competitors, it is not the only entity pursuing Dogecoin exposure. 21Shares, Bitwise, and Grayscale have all submitted DOGE-related ETFs using the regular approval process. It is subject to a more comprehensive S-1/19b-4 review cycle by the SEC. Besides, no final ruling has been made to date.

This makes REX the favorite, but the unorthodox strategy could be subject to further examination in the future.

If the Dogecoin ETF gets approved, it would bring meme coins into regulated investment vehicles for the first time in the U.S. It will also allow retail traders and institutions to gain DOGE exposure.

Dogecoin Price Analysis: Is a Turnaround Possible?

For the past two months, Dogecoin has traded in a bearish momentum. It has kept forming lower low swings. Amidst the bearish price action, DOGE has maintained support at its 200-day EMA and made a solid base around $0.2000.

At the time of writing, Dogecoin price was trading at $0.2175, noting a rise of 0.23% in the past 24 hours. Amidst the speculation regarding the Dogecoin ETF, it may see an upsurge soon.

Looking at the daily chart price action, Dogecoin price is forming a symmetrical triangle pattern. It looks set for a breakout move.

If Dogecoin price breaks the trendline resistance of $0.2300, it may surge to $0.2500. On the other hand, if it breaks below the 200-day EMA support level, it may retest the demand zone of $0.1800 in the coming sessions.

Conclusion

The Dogecoin ETF discussion has crossed the bridge between speculation and reality. Dogecoin is now competing to be the first meme coin ETF to launch in the United States after Bitcoin and Ethereum, as the filing of REX Shares is now public.

The push, though not a certainty, is a critical juncture at which internet culture and institutional finance may finally hit at full speed.

Once the SEC greenlights the application, Dogecoin will not only be a meme but a ticker on a national exchange. It can clear the path for more altcoin ETFs and create a new way to consider what is investable according to regulators.
