Bitcoin critic Peter Schiff slammed the underperformance of the largest crypto compared to the yellow metal. BTC has gained 45% since the beginning of 2025.
This comes as BTC price faces selling pressure, slipping to $111,534. Meanwhile, the gold price, on the other hand, has reached its all-time high of $3,750. Clearly, the yellow metal has been dominating its digital lookalike.
Peter Schiff Slams Bitcoin’s Poor Show
Gold advocate Peter Schiff has criticized Bitcoin’s performance. He argued that the cryptocurrency fails to live up to its “digital gold” narrative. Schiff noted that when measured against gold, Bitcoin is currently 20% below its all-time high from August.
He added that this effectively puts BTC in a bear market territory. Additionally, Schiff boldly claimed that a major capital rotation will happen from Bitcoin ETFs into gold, silver, and mining stocks. He added that once Gold surpasses $4,000, the BTC price would crash to under $100,000.
Schiff cautioned that a sharp decline in Bitcoin could leave investors with too little capital to shift into precious metals meaningfully. Major banks like JPMorgan foresee gold surging to $4,000 per ounce soon. They also project a further rise to $6,000 per ounce within two years.

Despite the Fed rate cuts last week, the Gold price rally has continued unidirectionally. On the other hand, Bitcoin has seen intense selling pressure as sticky inflationary conditions lead to risk-off market sentiment.
Furthermore, data shows that Gold has followed the Global M2 money supply perfectly. On the other hand, BTC has been lagging for a long time.
Gold vs Bitcoin Comparison
Crypto analyst Crypto Patel sees a possible trend shift in the Gold/BTC ratio. Gold is gaining momentum against Bitcoin, signaling a change in market dynamics.
The ratio has posted a higher low for the first time since Bitcoin’s 2022 low, signaling relative strength in gold. Historically, Bitcoin price bottoms have coincided with Gold/BTC peaks in 2015, 2018, and 2022.

Patel noted that the ratio is trending upward, possibly moving toward 0.41. If the higher low holds, it could indicate a broader market rotation from Bitcoin dominance back toward gold
Speaking on the development, popular crypto analyst Ted Pillows noted: “BTC is back below the $112,000 level. US stock futures are down, too, while Gold is soaring. This isn’t a good outlook for risk-on assets.”
“Bitcoin Will 10x Gold,” Says Michael Saylor
Despite the recent Bitcoin underperformance relative to Gold, BTC proponents are bullish about the “digital gold”. In a CNBC interview, Michael Saylor shared a bold forecast for Bitcoin.
He believes its value could reach ten times that of gold. This prediction reflects his long-standing confidence in Bitcoin’s future dominance. He described Bitcoin as the “next frontier” for national reserves and corporate treasuries.
Saylor believes Bitcoin enhances corporate balance sheets more effectively than cash or stock buybacks. He made this point while discussing the proposed U.S. strategic Bitcoin reserve bill. He recalled a phrase historically tied to gold: “Bitcoin is money, everything else is credit.”
Saylor further noted that Bitcoin is evolving beyond its role as a hedge, increasingly serving as digital capital for credit markets. He pointed out that some companies already issue financial instruments backed by their Bitcoin reserves.
Thus, he parallels the centuries-long use of gold-backed bonds in traditional finance. “The world ran on gold-backed credit for 300 years,” he said. “The world’s going to run on digital gold-backed credit for the next 300,” said Saylor.
