Bitcoin BTC Slides Below $90,000 as Dominance Breaks Down and Analysts Warn of New Lows

Key Insights

• Bitcoin BTC fell below $90K while dominance dropped, signaling unusual internal market rotation.

• Liquidity clusters near $90K may support a short-term relief bounce.

• Long-term holders accumulated aggressively during the selloff as retail exited.

Bitcoin price dropped below $90,000 this week, extending a rapid two-week slide from the recent $110,000 peak. The move pressured sentiment across the market, even as altcoins showed unusual resilience. Traders debated whether the downturn marked a deeper bearish phase or a temporary shakeout driven by large players.

The 14-day decline erased 30% of Bitcoin’s recent gains. The drop happened while Bitcoin dominance also fell more than 4%. That divergence fueled concerns of internal portfolio rotation among top-tier holders rather than broad retail panic.

Coin Bureau highlighted the key shift. Bitcoin dominance fell “below 60% for the first time in over a month,” the account posted. That weakening dominance usually signals growing altcoin strength.

Ash Crypto noted that the behavior looked abnormal, saying the move was “something weird… never seen before in the history of crypto.”

Despite the sharp selloff, altcoins paired against Bitcoin recovered from the Oct. 10 slump. Ash Crypto stated that the structure indicated “cartel-level rotations” concentrated in major assets.

The analyst added that long-term players could be accumulating quietly while short-term sentiment capitulates. That interpretation implied strategic accumulation rather than broad market distress.

Many traders pointed to institutional trading flows as the key driver. Kalshi-based trade pricing forecasted a potential extension of the slide. “$BTC now forecasted to drop to around $82,000 this year,” Whale Insider shared.

The projection suggested one more leg lower could test the confidence of recent buyers.

Liquidity Clusters Appear Near $90K, Analysts Expect Bounce

Technical traders tracked liquidity bands for a rebound target. Ted, from TedPillows on X, described a “decent liquidity cluster around the $90,000-$92,000 level.” That area included a Chicago Mercantile Exchange gap from earlier in the quarter.

Gaps on derivatives charts often act like magnets in volatile phases.

He added that a short-term relief bounce could develop “if buyers step in.”

Still, market stress indicators showed traders bracing for deeper moves if the downward channel held. The current descending pattern started after the $125,000 high in Oct., and the price repeatedly failed to break the upper trendline.

KillaXBT said Bitcoin already completed “40% of a typical bear market retrace in just a few weeks.” The trader acknowledged liquidation clusters in the $88,000–$92,000 zone and positioned long at those levels. A bounce toward $97,000–$98,000 remained part of the plan if support held.

However, Killa warned that a break lower could open a wick to $76,000–$78,000, though he viewed that outcome as less likely during Q4.

Accumulation Rises as Traders Capitulate

Some data offered hope to bulls. CryptoQuant figures cited by Coin Bureau indicated “the biggest Bitcoin accumulation… happening right in the middle of a market selloff.”

That read suggested long-term holders increased exposure while short-term traders exited. Historically, strong accumulation during periods of downside volatility has indicated an early indication of positioning for a recovery phase.

But that narrative faced skepticism from traders focused on liquidity contraction.

Jacob King posted a sharp critique of market structure. He blamed earlier rallies on Tether’s money creation, saying the printer had “slammed the brakes.” He argued the bear trend had already arrived and warned the “drop ahead is going to be deeper and longer than people want to admit.”

That aligned with the broader risk-off tone as global liquidity tightened in recent weeks.

Psychological Pressure Intensifies as Sentiment Shifts

Crypto influencers amplified the bearish mood. BD Crypto Guru declared that Bitcoin “finally dumped below $90,000 as predicted” and promoted a giveaway of one Bitcoin to followers. Sentiment indicators often reveal stress when fear-driven content spreads rapidly.

Short-term traders grew anxious about forced liquidations. High leverage built near the highs unwound quickly. The move sliced into momentum strategies and pushed volatility higher.

At the same time, altcoins holding strong kept hope alive that the downturn could be a rotation rather than a broad collapse. Ash Crypto said the behavior clearly showed “Non-ones panic-selling altcoins right now,” emphasizing that the weakness was not universal.

Still, the market appeared split between accumulation optimism and systemic caution.

Outlook: Testing Lower Support Before a Reversal?

With the price near the lower boundary of the falling channel, the next move is likely to set the tone for the year-end. A sustained break below $88,000 risks a slide toward Whale Insider’s $82,000 target, or lower if liquidity evaporates.

A bounce from current support could trigger a sharp relief push toward Ted’s $97,000–$98,000 zone. Traders, however, remained cautious until dominance stabilizes and liquidity inflows return.

The current structure still favored controlled selling pressure and defensive positioning among top holders.

Bitcoin stands at a pivot where accumulation trends and dominance signals conflict. That tension could fuel volatility as investors decide whether the latest drop marks the midpoint of a retrace or the early stage of a new cycle reset.
