Pi coin value shot up by a staggering 13% today, following news that Pi Network was seeking Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) compliance. The good thing is that today’s upside came with a massive 375% upside in the daily trading volume, shooting to $75 million. This highlights a strong bullish sentiment among traders for a future price surge.
Pi Coin Value Surges 13% on Key Development
Pi coin, the native cryptocurrency of the Pi Network, showed strong signs of reversal, adding 13% and moving past $0.25. This helped the altcoin break past the long-standing consolidation at around $0.22. Today’s Pi coin value upside came with a strong surge in daily trading volume to $75 million.

This highlights renewed bullish sentiment for the altcoin as its market cap crossed $2.0 billion once again. As per data from Coinalyze, the Pi coin open interest had surged by 25% to more than $6.4 million.
However, the bulls need to ensure that the Pi coin value surpasses $0.28, which has served as a major resistance. Moving past this could trigger a breakout to $0.50 and more.
This rally comes after Pi Network shares its MiCA compliance whitepaper.
Another potential catalyst for Pi Network’s price is renewed accumulation by its largest known whale, despite recent market weakness.
Data from PiScan shows the whale continued buying over the past several weeks, including a purchase of 917,014 tokens worth more than $200,000 on Monday after a five-day pause.
Pi Network Signals Full MiCA Alignment
Until now, Pi has remained largely untradable across Europe due to regulatory requirements. Limited exposure began only recently through the Valour Pi Exchange-Traded Product (ETP), which trades on Sweden’s Spotlight Stock Market.
The latest MiCA whitepaper marks a significant step toward full regulatory integration. Despite the project’s slow, seven-year development cycle, Pi community members say the progress sets the foundation for long-term expansion within the EU.
Furthermore, the whitepaper highlighted a critical fact that Pi Network’s annual energy consumption stood at just 0.0024 TWh, compared with Bitcoin’s roughly 185 TWh per year. This places Pi’s energy usage at over 99.9% lower than Bitcoin’s, underscoring its highly energy-efficient design.
The network’s low consumption profile aligns with global decarbonization and net-zero objectives. This makes Pi one of the most environmentally sustainable blockchain platforms worldwide.
Discrepancy Remains on Pi coin Value as “Utility Token”
Pi Network clarified its regulatory position under the EU’s MiCA. In the latest whitepaper, it noted that the Pi token will not be classified as a “utility token” for legal reasons, despite having practical utility within its ecosystem.
Under Article 3(1)(9) of MiCA, a utility token is defined narrowly as a crypto-asset solely intended to provide access to a good or service offered by its issuer. The Pi Core Team noted that Pi’s functionality extends well beyond this restricted definition.
This is because the token is designed for broader use across the ecosystem rather than operating purely as an access key for issuer-provided services.
By opting not to categorize Pi as a utility token, the project avoids regulatory constraints tied to this specific classification and gains greater flexibility under MiCA’s framework. The team also dismissed community speculation around “dual value” concepts, i.e. the Global Consensus Value (GCV), calling such ideas unfounded.
