Ahead of the US CPI number and Bank of Japan’s (BoJ) rate hike announcement, the altcoin market is seeing some major volatility. With the market cap now reaching an inflection point, analysts remain divided on what the next steps will be. For a long time, investors have been waiting for an altseason, which has yet to materialize.
Altcoin Market On Inflection Point
Popular market analyst Ash Crypto noted that the current setup resembles the potential for an altcoin rally. He noted that the total cryptocurrency market capitalization, excluding Bitcoin and Ethereum, mirrors past inflection points.

According to Ash Crypto, the altcoin market has maintained a long-term multi-year support level, while liquidity conditions appear to be tightening near recent lows. In prior cycles, similar conditions were followed by strong breakouts once the U.S. Federal Reserve ended quantitative tightening (QT).
As shown in the above image, a similar setup occurred during the 2020–2021 market cycle. This led to a strong surge across the altcoin market. Analysts note that the current environment includes additional catalysts not present in earlier cycles. It includes factors such as spot crypto ETFs and the increasing involvement of traditional finance firms in on-chain markets.
Is The Altcoin Market Preparing Major Comeback?
One of the biggest question ahead of investors is whether altcoins could be nearing a significant turnaround against Bitcoin. Bitcoinsensus shared a recent analysis noting that altcoins have steadily lost their value relative to Bitcoin since 2022. This trend has lasted even longer than many had expected.
Due to this major underperformance, altcoins have entered deeply oversold territory across both their U.S. dollar and Bitcoin trading pairs. Bitcoinsensus noted that several major altcoins are now trading near key long-term support levels on higher timeframes. This increases the chances of a structural shift ahead.

Market observers caution that relative performance between Bitcoin and altcoins can change rapidly once momentum turns.
Crypto market analyst Michael van de Poppe has highlighted rising risk-off sentiment ahead of key near-term market events, pointing to weakness in the ETH/BTC trading pair. According to van de Poppe, Ethereum has declined by nearly 15% against Bitcoin, signaling a sharp shift in market positioning.

Despite the sell-off, van de Poppe said the ETH/BTC pair remains near a major support zone. He added that the next 48 hours will be critical in determining whether momentum begins to recover.
Altcoin Season Remains on Hold
Popular market analyst Merlijn The Trader noted that an altcoin season has yet to materialize fully. He added that technical conditions are beginning to shift in favor of a potential rotation. Merlijn that several structural signals are aligning, suggesting that the market may be approaching an inflection point.

Recent price action shows successful retests of key levels, breakouts in the relative strength index (RSI), and continued respect for long-term monthly support zones. These developments indicate an improvement in technical foundations, even as capital remains concentrated in Bitcoin.
The trader added that the current environment favors selective positioning over indiscriminate buying. Moreover, a sustained decline in BTC dominance could act as a catalyst for a broader altcoin rally.
