Coinbase expanded its UK regulatory position after securing investment services authorization for new financial products. The approval gives the exchange a route to offer equities and derivatives alongside crypto under one platform.
COIN closed at $163.51 on July 7 after trading between $161.69 and $170.10. The UK expansion arrived against an earlier cautious Wall Street view, with Baird maintaining a $142 price target.
Coinbase Wins UK Authorization for New Products
Coinbase said its UK entity received investment services authorization, which adds traditional financial products to its local offering. The company can now place equities and derivatives alongside crypto on a single platform and with a single login. The approval also sits alongside its UK e-money licence and crypto registration.
The product rollout gives institutional and advanced traders access to crypto, equity, and commodity perpetual futures. Meanwhile, UK retail users will be able to trade equities on Coinbase for the first time. Coinbase framed the move as its largest UK product expansion since entering the market.

The approval also arrives before the UK’s wider crypto rules take effect in October 2027. That timing allows Coinbase to broaden its product range before the full crypto regime begins. The company has already added savings and borrowing products in the UK this year.
Analyst Cuts COIN Stock Target Despite UK Expansion
Baird lowered its COIN stock price target to $142 from $160 as Coinbase adds more products. The brokerage cited weak trading volumes, revenue risk, and valuation pressure in its view. Analyst David Koning also named Coinbase a bearish fresh pick, according to market reports.

Coinbase has tried to reduce its reliance on spot trading fees. The exchange wider plan includes derivatives, equities, tokenized products, prediction markets, savings, and borrowing tools. However, those products may need time to grow before they change the revenue mix.
COIN Stock Rebound Faces Higher Resistance
COIN closed below its July 7 intraday high after recovering from late-June weakness. The stock remained above the recent support region near $140, where buyers previously responded.
A sustained break below that area would weaken the recovery structure. Until then, the recent rebound keeps the support zone relevant for short-term traders.
On the upside, the 100-day exponential moving average near $187.87 remains an important resistance marker. A close above that level would improve the short-term structure after months of pressure.
The Average Directional Index recently eased near 18.3. That reading indicated limited trend strength without identifying bullish or bearish direction.
The technical picture, therefore, remains mixed. COIN has recovered from recent lows but still trades below a higher resistance area that could determine stronger trend confirmation.
Coinbase’s UK authorization widened its regulated product scope at a time when the company is diversifying beyond crypto trading. However, regulatory access alone does not guarantee immediate revenue growth.
The next test will come from product adoption and trading activity. Those factors will determine whether the UK expansion offsets the earnings concerns behind Baird’s earlier target cut.
COIN Price Rebounds but Key Levels Remain Important
On the upside, the stock needs a stronger move above the 100-day exponential moving average near $187.87. A close above that level would weaken the bearish setup and improve the short-term chart. Until then, the rebound remains under review because momentum has not clearly strengthened.

The Average Directional Index recently eased to 18.3 after rising above 20 last week. That reading shows a weaker trend and gives traders less confirmation. For now, the COIN stock price prediction stays tied to the $141 support area and the $187.87 resistance level.
Coinbase wants to bring crypto, stocks, derivatives, stablecoin payments, and lending products into one platform. The UK authorization supports that plan by adding regulated access to traditional investments.
Still, the company faces competition from brokers, banks, fintech firms, and other crypto exchanges.
COIN stock may recover further if buyers reclaim $187.87, while weakness below $141 would keep the bearish case active.
