Bitcoin treasury firm Empery Digital has sold 1,400 BTC for $87.1 million over the past month. The firm disclosed this in its recent SEC filing, noting that it began selling Bitcoin on May 7 at an average price of $62,200.
The sale meant that the Nasdaq-listed company sold almost half of its Bitcoin holdings within a month. It now holds 1,514 BTC, worth $96.5 million at the current price.
Empery Digital Spends Bitcoin Proceeds on Debt and New Property
According to the SEC filing, Empery Digital used $10 million from the proceeds of the Bitcoin sales to settle part of an outstanding debt on July 7. It still has $45 million outstanding on its debt facility.
Beyond that, part of the proceeds is also going towards covering operating costs and legal expenses arising from an ongoing stockholder litigation.
However, the majority of the funds went toward its pivot to artificial intelligence. The firm stated that it is spending the remaining funds on a $65 million property deal previously announced in June, in partnership with Hunt Properties.

The deal would see Empery Digital own a 25% stake in an AI data center facility located in the Midwest. The property has a capacity of 150MW with the ability to double to almost 300MW.
Empery Digital stated at the time that it would end its treasury dashboard, as it no longer views the company’s net asset value (NAV) based on its BTC holdings as a direct reflection of its true NAV.
Bitcoin Treasury Companies Turn to Selling BTC in a Change in Policy
Meanwhile, Empery Digital’s disclosure highlights that Bitcoin Treasury firms are now turning to their BTC holdings for liquidity. The largest public holder of Bitcoin, Strategy, exemplifies this best.
Strategy sold 32 Bitcoin in June and recently sold another 3,588 BTC for $216 million in July. The sales were part of its Bitcoin Monetization Program under which it could raise to $1.29 billion by selling Bitcoin.
The firm changed its policy on Bitcoin holdings after concerns about its ability to meet its dividend obligations for digital credit. Proceeds from sales add to its efforts to build cash reserves, which will fund dividends on its preferred shares, STRC.
Interestingly, other firms have also sold BTC this year, including Bitcoin miner MARA Holdings. The company sold 20,880 BTC in Q1 of 2026 for 1.5 billion, using the funds to settle an outstanding debt and fund AI infrastructure.
Despite Empery Digital’s recent sales disclosures, Bitcoin is up slightly today, briefly crossing $64,000 earlier before dropping back below.
