Key Insights:
- Bitcoin rebound eased short-term holder losses, reducing average unrealized losses from 15% to 8% noticeably.
- Leverage usage rises as traders incur over $550 million losses and adopt riskier strategies swiftly.
- Retail investors sell Bitcoin below $90K, with low Open Interest and extreme market fear persisting.
Bitcoin price decline has put short-term holders (STHs) under pressure, with 28% of the circulating supply now in an unrealized loss position. When the price fell to $78,000, STHs saw an average loss of 15%, reflecting growing selling pressure in the market.
Meanwhile, STH losses eased slightly with Bitcoin rebounding back to the $84,000- $85,000 range, lowering the average unrealized loss to 8%. If Bitcoin continues to recover, it suggests that selling pressure will decrease with recent price movement. Aggressive selling by STHs has been on decline, which could facilitate the market to stabilize.

Leverage Usage Rises Despite Bitcoin’s Price Decline
However, as Bitcoin (BTC) continues to be in the correction phase, traders are leaning in on the leverage. Data shows a steady increase of Estimated Leverage Ratio, where there is a more risk being taken on by traders even with market uncertainty.
NRPL data states that traders have lost more than $550 million. Thus, the increase in leverage means that many are trying to make back these losses through riskier trades. With Bitcoin’s price in a downtrend after its all time high in December 2024, traders are becoming more bold in their trading strategies.

Retail Investors Selling at a Loss as Fear Grows
Retail investors are increasingly selling their Bitcoin holdings at a loss as the price remains below the $90,000 level, based on CryptoQuant data. Many short-term holders have started spending their coins at lower price levels, contributing to selling pressure.
Additionally, Open Interest variation has reached a six-month low, suggesting rising fear in the market. As excess leverage is being liquidated, sentiment is shifting toward extreme fear.
Market Correction Signals Potential Bottom Formation
Since Bitcoin is in a correction phase, long positions with lower leverage are now under more pressure. Several of those positions become more susceptible to future market declines because their liquidation price is further away.
In the past week longs have been liquidated $1.5 billion, after key short term support broke down.

Signs indicate that the market is extremely fearful and hence with the correction phase, there has been higher selling as usual. The market bottom is being closely watched by investors wondering how the markets will react to market conditions.
At time of writing, Bitcoin price is $85,072, a 6.66 percent increase over the last 24 hours, but a 11.83 percent decline over the previous week. The total market capitalization is $1.68 trillion, and the circulating supply currently registers 20 million BTC.
