Senator Elizabeth Warren has sternly warned US crypto regulation regarding possible harm to the space. She says that the sector may seriously destabilize the economy of the United States if it is not examined carefully.
Talking to Bloomberg, Warren underlined the importance of more effective regulatory models. She particularly referred to the increasing power of the cryptocurrency industry.
Her biggest worry is the possible existence of consumer exposure. The absence of control barriers that would eliminate the possibility of crypto causing serious financial disruptions. Warren stated that we cannot have loose rules that the crypto lobbyists actively promote. This is because they do not offer sufficient protection to investors and the rest of the economy.
CLARITY Act May Undermine Securities and Exchange Commission
Warren criticized the CLARITY Act and the Digital Asset Market Structure Clarity Act, warning they could undermine regulators.
The bills, now in the House Agriculture and Financial Services Committees, include a clause that lets New York Stock Exchange firms digitize their assets. That could let companies like Tesla or Meta avoid Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) scrutiny by converting equities into digital tokens.
Warren warned the move would allow capital raises outside SEC oversight, enabling fraud and market manipulation. She called the loophole dangerous and warned it would erode investor protections.
If passed by the Senate, the legislation could alter the U.S. financial regulatory framework and shift oversight away from traditional agencies.
Warren said the deregulation would likely lead to more scams and theft in the crypto space, worsening risk exposure for retail traders.
Trump’s Influence on US Crypto Regulation
Besides her reservations over cryptocurrency regulations, Warren opined on the attempts by Donald Trump, a former president, to arm-twist the U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to extend his reign.
Trump has allegedly tried to get Powell thrown out of the office, which Warren heavily disagreed with. Although she admitted that she disagreed with Powell in economic policies and methods of regulation, Warren said clearly that trying to fire Powell would be against the law. It would create calm in the financial markets.

She cautioned that this step would result in weakening of the U.S dollar and an increase in volatility to a greater extent. This, too, would deteriorate the country’s financial system.
The remarks by Warren are amidst the tensions surrounding the future of U.S. monetary policy. There is speculation that changes in leadership in the Federal Reserve is raising the alarm.
Warren maintained that removing Powell without cause violates U.S. law, which only allows termination for misconduct, not policy decisions.
The Growing Concern in US Crypto Regulation
Warren’s remarks are just one of the larger discussions in Washington, and figuring out the proper regulation of the fast-growing crypto economy.
Coupled with the CLARITY Act, two other bills are also questioned in the US crypto regulation. These are the GENIUS Act and the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act.
The set of bills, especially the GENIUS Act, which would prohibit the Federal Reserve from creating a central bank digital currency (CBDC) has attracted Republican legislators but a bitter response by financial reformers. Skeptics believe that the bills would expose investors to risks in the digital asset market, which are not in check, and compromise the financial system’s stability.
With the U.S. getting nearer to passing these crypto bills, the argument about the necessity of government regulation of the digital asset industry is growing stronger.
Its well known that Warren is vocally against the CLARITY Act, but the general issue here is that financial regulators and consumer protection activists fear that the current surge of cryptocurrencies could create a lot of economic instability unless former issues are addressed.
