Leading cryptocurrency exchange giant Binance has announced the launch of Meda, a regulated financial channel billed to operate in Mexico.
This is backed by an investment of more than 1 billion pesos ($53 million) to expand access to digital services and strengthen its position in Latin America.
Binance Unveils Meda in Mexico
Binance introduced Meda, an authorized Electronic Payment Funds Institution, in Mexico on 1 September 2025.
Richard Teng, the Chief Executive Officer of Binance, announced in a statement shared with the public.
According to the statement, the company confirmed that the investment, valued at more than 1 billion pesos, would be spread across four years.
As noted in the publication, Meda was created to provide users in Mexico with access to peso deposits and withdrawals.
Notably, this allows them to use their local currency within the Binance ecosystem.
Binance explained that Meda would operate as an independent unit. Its role was to strengthen links between traditional banking and digital assets.
Mexican financial authorities approved and regulated the platform, which would oversee its operations.
Per the update, the company also said the move highlighted Mexico’s importance in its global strategy.
With a population of over 125 million people, the country was seen as a key market for expanding financial inclusion and building a stronger digital economy in the region.
Expanding Presence and Regulatory Footprint
It is worth mentioning that Meda added to Binance’s growing list of approvals around the world.
The company already held licenses or registrations in 22 jurisdictions, including France, Italy, Spain, Dubai, Japan, Brazil, and Argentina.

Guilherme Nazar, Binance’s Regional Vice President for Latin America, said Meda would bring more competition to Mexico’s financial technology market.
He explained that a more competitive market could give consumers access to better services at lower costs.
The new unit was designed to work independently, with a team focused on sustainable growth.
Binance crypto said this approach would support fair development between traditional financial institutions and the digital asset industry.
The investment of $53 million showed the company’s commitment to Mexico as a regional hub.
Binance stated that Meda would expand access to digital services and set standards for compliance and user trust in Latin America.
Focus on Education and Compliance
Binance also stressed that education and compliance would remain central to its work.
The company’s learning platform, Binance Academy, offered free materials in Spanish and more than 30 other languages.
According to the statement, in 2024, more than 44 million people used the resources.
Students in Mexico, including those at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and Monterrey Institute of Technology, were among the users.
On compliance, Binance said it invested heavily each year in building secure systems. The exchange spent hundreds of millions on programs meeting international and local standards.
By working with regulators and law enforcement, Binance aimed to detect and prevent illicit activity.
The company explained that these measures were important for building trust in digital finance.
It added that combining strong oversight with independent operations would allow Meda to serve users more effectively.
Based on market perception, the launch of Meda marked a major step for Binance in Latin America.
Richard Teng described the investment as part of the company’s wider plan to bring secure and affordable financial services to more people.
With operations authorized in Mexico, Meda would give users access to digital transactions backed by local regulation.
Binance said the goal was to help Mexico become a financial technology center while supporting education, compliance, and sustainable development.
