Charles Hoskinson Says RLUSD May Join ADA, But Circle Deal Creates Delay

Key Insights:

  • Cardano and RLUSD teams are in active talks on integration plans.
  • Ripple’s potential Circle acquisition may impact RLUSD roadmap.
  • New stablecoins EURØP and USDB launch on the XRP Ledger.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has confirmed that discussions are advancing between his team and the developers behind Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin. These talks are part of ongoing efforts to integrate RLUSD into the Cardano ecosystem.

During a recent livestream, Hoskinson addressed community questions about the stablecoin’s potential launch timeline on Cardano. While early dialogue reportedly began last year, progress continues to hinge on several external factors, particularly corporate developments involving Circle, the issuer of USDC.

Speculation Around Circle Acquisition Adds Complexity

Hoskinson pointed out that current talks include evaluating the broader implications of a possible acquisition of Circle by Ripple. The acquisition, which remains speculative, is reportedly valued at around $11 billion.

According to Hoskinson, such a move could significantly alter RLUSD’s development and listing strategy. If RLUSD were to merge with Circle, integration timelines and technical approaches may need to be redefined.

Furthermore, Hoskinson revealed that Cardano had proposed supporting RLUSD’s onboarding at no cost. Despite this offer, the RLUSD team reportedly emphasized the need to resolve both technical and strategic questions before any implementation can begin.

These include whether RLUSD should be integrated via a layer-zero routing system—a method being actively explored by several blockchain projects—or through a direct issuance approach. Talks between the teams remain active, although no formal agreement has been finalized as of now.

Cardano Explores Additional Stablecoin Options

As RLUSD discussions continue, Cardano is also evaluating other stablecoin alternatives to strengthen its ecosystem. Hoskinson confirmed this in his livestream, noting that stablecoins remain critical to broader decentralized finance use cases.

According to him, the integration of any stablecoin, including RLUSD, would depend on alignment around technical requirements and ecosystem priorities.

The ongoing engagement with RLUSD is viewed within a larger context of Cardano’s growing interest in stable digital assets. However, no specific timeline has been provided for when or if RLUSD will go live on the platform. The outcome of Ripple’s potential acquisition of Circle could determine future developments in this area, as it may influence RLUSD’s operational structure and blockchain deployment strategy.

New Stablecoins Expand Presence on XRP Ledger

Although the future of RLUSD on Cardano is undecided, the XRP network welcomed two more fiat-backed stablecoins last week.

European finance firm Schuman Financial has come out with EURØP, which is a euro-based stablecoin that follows the new MiCA rules. According to Schuman Financial, which is supervised by the ACPR in France, EURØP can be redeemed and is supported by euros deposited with Societe Generale.

Also, KPMG performs audits on the EURØP reserves, fitting with the highest institutional standards of compliance. The asset aims to serve as a euro-native settlement tool for decentralized finance, tokenized real-world assets, and business payments.

Over 3.3 billion transactions have been completed on the XRP Ledger, which also supports a network of 200 validators for handling many financial applications.

Meanwhile, USD-backed stablecoin USDB by Braza Group made its debut on the XRP Ledger. The USDB is backed by one dollar for every USDB, with support from bonds from both the U.S. and Brazilian governments.

As Braza confirms, these assets are audited on a regular schedule to ensure everyone can see how they are used. The release comes after Braza introduced its digital BBRL crypto, creating a standard digital platform for its business.

USDB is predicted by Marcelo Sacomori, Braza’s CEO, to help manage currency volatility and improve the speed of sending payments, both locally and internationally.

Recently, according to sources, Binance Brazil processed $1 billion in Brazil’s interbank market in a single day, proving it can manage a high volume of transactions for its stablecoin products.
