Wall Street traders are anticipating a rate cut announcement from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell this Friday at the Jackson Hole Summit.
Many are watching to see the implications for Bitcoin (BTC), which continues to struggle at the $113,000 region.
Markets Hope for Dovish Rate Cut Pivot From Powell
Polymarket users believe that there is an 89% chance of the U.S. Federal Reserve implementing a rate cut this year. This marks a notable increase from the 76% rate cut probability forecasted on August 1.
At the time, the market expectations followed a drop in the U.S. inflation index to 1.67% and weak jobs data.
Currently, the shift in market sentiments stems from expectations of Powell’s speech at the Jackson Hole Summit on Friday, August 22, 2025.
The Federal Reserve Chair will possibly provide insights into future policy direction, particularly regarding interest rates.
Wall Street traders anticipate the announcement of interest rate cuts, which remained unchanged between 4.25% and 4.5% throughout 2025.

A possible rate cut announcement on Friday could boost the financial and crypto stock markets.
Lower interest rates reduce borrowing costs, stimulate investment, and support corporate earnings. However, if Powell adopts a hawkish tone, markets could face more volatility.
U.S. stocks and Bitcoin (BTC) are under severe bearish pressure. The S&P 500 index opened 0.24% lower at 6,395.78. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.67% to 21,172.86.
Shares of tech giant Microsoft have also shed 0.7%, while Tesla declined by 1.64%. Similarly, BTC plummeted slightly by 0.3% over the previous day to $113,401.
Will Powell Fuel Another Crypto Rally?
Fed Chair Powell has used past Jackson Hole speeches to signal policy shifts. In 2024, during the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium, Powell gave a dovish interest rate announcement.
As a result, Bitcoin price surged 5% in a single day, indicating optimism among market participants.

Looking ahead to Powell’s upcoming speech this Friday, markets are anticipating clues about the Federal Reserve’s plans for September.
Many investors are hoping for a similar signal this year. However, some analysts caution that Powell may not be explicit due to ongoing inflation concerns driven by President Trump’s tariffs.
A signal of a rate cut this Friday could act as a catalyst for another crypto rally. Generally, rate cuts weaken the dollar and increase liquidity. As a result, investors are encouraged to invest in speculative assets like cryptocurrencies.
However, if Powell maintains or keeps interest rates higher, it could trigger a sharp sell-off in crypto markets.
Bitcoin Still Under Bearish Pressure
While the market awaits Powell’s speech on Friday, the Bitcoin price continues to move sideways.
However, the BTC fear and greed index has shifted from “fear” to the “neutral” category, while volatility remained low at 1.7%.
Since reaching its all-time high at $124,000, the BTC price continued to face intense selling pressure.
The BTC price drop followed a stronger-than-anticipated U.S. economic data, dampening hopes that the Fed would accelerate its policy transition.
Recent persistent outflows from the spot BTC exchange-traded fund (ETF) market may have also contributed to the bearish sentiments.
According to Farside Investors data, the spot BTC ETFs have recorded four consecutive days of outflows since August 15.
On Wednesday, August 20, the BTC ETFs saw total cumulative outflows reaching $315.9 million. BlackRock’s IBIT came first with outflows that amounted to $220 million.
Ark Invest’s ARKB followed with $75.7 million, while Grayscale’s GBTC came behind with $9 million.
