Donald Trump Jr. continues to expand his reach in the crypto prediction market through his recent investment in Polymarket, a leading platform in the industry.

According to Axios, 1789 Capital, where Trump Jr. is a strategic partner, has invested double-digit millions in Polymarket. This follows a previous investment in Kalshi, signaling a consistent interest in crypto prediction markets.

In addition to investing in the platform, Trump Jr. will join the Polymarket Advisory board.

An Axios source familiar with the matter revealed that Omeed Malik, founder of 1789 Capital, and Shayne Coplan, founder of Polymarket, started discussing the potential deal 18 months ago.

The VC firm reportedly waited until a clear regulatory framework was established in the United States before finalizing the investment. The firm also announced that U.S. authorities had concluded their investigation into Polymarket, with both the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the CFTC ending their probe in 2024 after a raid of the founder’s home and seizure of his phones.

Polymarket, valued at over $1 billion, is the world’s leading crypto-based prediction market, known for accurately predicting the outcome of the 2024 United States Presidential Election.

Despite its status as the leading crypto prediction platform in terms of user base and transaction volume, Polymarket is poised to expand into the vast US market following previous restrictions.

The Company, however, is making strides to turn this around with current efforts, including a $112 million acquisition of QCEX, which also involves acquiring a CFT license.

With Trump Jr.’s investment, 1789 Capital sees Polymarket as a potential IPO candidate, raising hopes that regulatory hurdles and the U.S. ban could eventually be lifted.
