Crypto ETFs: T. Rowe and Morgan Stanley Push Ahead for Ethereum and Solana ETFs

Despite a strong volatility in the market, crypto ETFs continue to be in strong demand. Asset managers like T. Rowe and Morgan Stanley are working to bring their own ETFs in the market as per the latest filing. This happens as the inflows into Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs have flipped positive once again.

T. Rowe Prepares to Launch Its Active Crypto ETF

Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas said T. Rowe Price could launch the fund as early as this week, subject to regulatory and exchange requirements.

Balchunas said the launch could take place as soon as Thursday, July 16. He added that T. Rowe Price appears to have timed the rollout strategically by waiting for market conditions to stabilize following the October crypto market selloff.

The TKNZ Active Crypto ETF will launch on the NYSE Arca after receiving approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The fund will actively manage a portfolio of 5 to 15 digital assets. It will move allocations across major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Cardano, Dogecoin, and other altcoins. Besides, it will charge an annual expense ratio of 0.75.

The underlying digital assets will be custodied by Anchorage Digital Bank. Furthermore, the TKNZ fund seeks to open up participation for staking in the future, after getting necessary regulatory approval.

Morgan Stanley Gets Closer to Launching Ethereum ETF and Solana ETF

US banking giant Morgan Stanley has submitted its updated registration filings to launch their spot Ethereum ETF and spot Solana ETF. As per the SEC filing from July 14, Morgan Stanley filed a third amended S-1 registration statement for its spot Ethereum ETF. This Ether ETF will list on the NYSE Arca platform under the ticker MSSE.

The fund will charge a 0.14% sponsor fee and plans to stake 50% to 80% of its ETH holdings through providers including Figment, Galaxy Digital, and Coinbase Canada. Staking service providers and custodians will receive 5% of the staking rewards.

The filing also names The Bank of New York Mellon and Coinbase Custody as custodians for the Ethereum ETF.

Separately, Morgan Stanley updated its S-1 registration statement for its proposed spot Solana ETF. It will also trade on NYSE Arca under the ticker MSOL. The Solana ETF will also charge a 0.14% management fee and plans to stake up to 100% of its SOL holdings through Figment, Galaxy Digital, and Coinbase Canada.

Japan Moves Forward in Legalizing Crypto ETFs

Japan has taken a major step toward legalizing spot Bitcoin ETFs. A committee from the Upper House has approved the legislation to classify Bitcoin and other crypto assets as financial instruments.

If introduced, the legislation would open the floodgates for other spot crypto ETFs to trade in Japan, by the next year of 2027. It will also push authorities to bring a regulatory framework for institutional crypto investment products.

The proposal also includes a significant tax reform. As a result, the capital gains on crypto profits will drop from 55% to a flat 20%. This will clearly make investing in crypto more attractive for retail and institutional participants in Japan.
