Bitcoin Price Could Hit $150K in 2025: Analyst Predicts A 2017 Repeat

Follow The Market Periodical

Key Insights:

  • Bitcoin may hit $150K in 2025, mirroring its 2017 market cycle.
  • Analysts debate whether $150K undervalues Bitcoin’s growing institutional and global adoption.
  • Long-term holders could see 500% gains if Bitcoin reaches $150K.

Bitcoin (BTC) could surge to $150,000 in this market cycle. Furthermore, the token mirrored its explosive performance during the 2016-2017 bull run. The same was indicated by the Glassnode analyst James Check.

Analyst Predicts Bitcoin Price “Topping Cloud” at $150,000

In the January 23rd episode of the Theya podcast, James Check talked about the Bitcoin price movement.

Bitcoin’s “topping cloud” for this cycle is between $120,000 and $150,000, he noted on the show. However, he cautioned against expecting the asset to hold above that level for long.

“We can absolutely bust out the top end of that, with a very, very low probability of staying at the top end,” Check said.

At press time, the BTC price was trading at $104,120, down 4.3% from its recent high of $109,538. Check believes that while $120,000 may bring profitability to most holders. Per him, the token’s price above $150,000 could push the market into speculative territory.

Data from Bitbo revealed that short-term Bitcoin holders paid an average of $90,349 per Bitcoin. On the other hand, long-term holders acquired the cryptocurrency at $24,627.

At $150,000, short-term holders stood to gain approximately 66%. In contrast, long-term holders could see returns exceeding 500%.

Comparing 2025 to the 2016-2017 Bull Run

CoinMarketCap data showed that the price of Bitcoin was $104,120 at the time of writing. The continuous volatility was further reflected in this.

Check noted “a lot of comparisons” between the current Bitcoin cycle and the one preceding the 2017 rally. Bitcoin experienced steady consolidations before massive price surges in the year’s second half.

Bitcoin’s 2016 quarterly performance included moderate changes, such as a -3.25% drop in Q1 and a 61.6% rise in Q2. The actual rally came in 2017, with Q4 delivering a 226.1% surge, culminating in Bitcoin’s then-all-time high of $19,783.

Bitcoin may remain range-bound until mid-2025 before experiencing its next parabolic move. However, analysts differ on the timeline for the peak.

Crypto trader Braver predicts a strong bull run in early 2025 but anticipates a macro-cycle top in Q4. Meanwhile, trader Mags sees the possibility of a peak as early as October 2025.

Why $150,000 Might Undersell Bitcoin’s Potential?

Glassnode analyst James Check considers $150,000 as the “topping cloud” for Bitcoin in this cycle. At the same time, others believe this target undervalues its potential.

Crypto trader Alex Becker dismissed the projection as a “silly low.” He further emphasized the possibility of Bitcoin soaring between $250,000 and $400,000.

“There is absolutely no reason for us to stop or cap at $150K,” Becker wrote in a January 16th post on X. He added, “If we reach that, there’s only more reason to go higher.”

Becker highlighted that a $150,000 BTC would bring its market cap to roughly $3 Trillion. It is a figure significantly smaller than gold’s $18.44 Trillion valuation.

He argued that the largest corporations, funds, and even countries are exploring Bitcoin as a strategic store of value. With this, the cryptocurrency’s potential remained far greater.

Similarly, crypto analyst Will Clemente echoed Becker’s optimism. In a recent post, Clemente stated that Bitcoin may become a strategic reserve asset for nations. If this happens, its price could eventually reach $1 Million.

“Once a nation adopts BTC as a strategic reserve asset, it becomes inherently nationalist to dollar-cost average into said asset,” Clemente said. The analyst added that this could create a game-theoretic ripple effect among other nations.

Will History Repeat Itself?

The Bitcoin price trajectory suggested that its next major rally could align with historical cycles. Market maturity, institutional adoption, and retail interest drove that.

The cryptocurrency has already demonstrated resilience. It broke through key psychological levels like $100,000 earlier this year.

As analysts debate the timing of the BTC peak, the consensus leans toward a bullish 2025. Traders and investors will continue to focus on Bitcoin’s capacity to reproduce its past cycles.
