Several Telegram Play-to-Earn (P2E) games have taken the world by storm in 2024. One of the most prominent examples of these games is Catizen. It offers players a mix of social entertainment, rewarding gameplay, and cat-themed cuteness.
Pluto Vision Labs developed the game in the same year. Now, it has come a long way toward capturing the attention of players worldwide since March.
So, what makes Catizen so popular, and what factors should you be aware of? Let’s explore.
The Rise of Catizen
Catizen, like most other P2Es in the same niche, touts itself as more than just a game. It is an entire ecosystem that has already managed to pull in over 26 million players as of July 2024.
The game has become a worldwide sensation on Telegram, with its on-chain transactions and reward system powered by the TON blockchain.
In a recent post, Telegram’s CEO, Pavel Durov, mentioned that the game has earned around $16 Million from in-app purchases. Furthermore, it has used around 1% of this ($1.6 Million) as donations to stray cat charities.
Here’s How the Game Works
Catizen allows players to act as a virtual person in a cat cafe. Players simply visit the cafe and merge cats in a puzzle fashion to form a higher-level one.
The higher the level of cats a user breeds during gameplay, the greater their share of the airdrop to come.
In July, Pluto, the game’s developer, mentioned offering players 43% of the initial total token supply via an airdrop. They will also receive the rewards set to launch on Telegram’s TON blockchain.
Catizen aims to onboard users into the web3 ecosystem through engaging games and airdrops. It also plans to feature an integrated e-commerce platform and a fully integrated metaverse.
Users can earn greater rewards by inviting friends to join. For rewards, they can complete quests, finish daily missions, open mystery boxes, and climb the global leaderboard.
Understanding Catizen Tokens
Catizen features several tokens within the game, and not just one. To begin with, there are tokens like vKITTY, which is the game’s primary token for buying things. Users can use vKITTY to buy new cats and earn more, depending on their cat’s highest level.
$CATI, on the other hand, is the official token of the Catizen metaverse. It has an initial supply of 1 billion tokens, which will be distributed to players at the token generation event.
Other minor tokens include wCATI and xZEN, which are earned by performing specific activities and for when a user’s referrals level up. The $CATI token was set to begin its presale phase on Bybit at the end of July 2024, which it has accomplished so far.

We’ve received many heartfelt inquiries about the progress of our airdrop, as well as concerns regarding recent changes within Catizen. We are confident these changes will benefit Catizen and its players in the long run.

However, the project announced at the last minute through a lengthy Twitter post that it would postpone its rewards and airdrop.
Interestingly, this comes amid a recent announcement from another similar project, Hamster Kombat, which is also postponing its airdrop plans.
