Vitalik Buterin Bashes Unichain: Uniswap’s L2 Solution Under Fire
  • Vitalik Buterin expressed his skepticism on the idea of a dedicated chain of Uniswap.
  • Recently, Uniswap has launched the testnet for Unichain.
  • Unichain’s testnet launch resulted in a surge in UNI’s price.

A few days back, Uniswap officially announced the plans for their Ethereum layer 2 (L2) solution, Unichain. It will help Uniswap Labs in improving the scalability of their network.

Unichan will be the home for DeFi and liquidity across chains. This layer 2 scaling protocol will make DeFi usable with high speed and low transaction costs.

An old X’s post by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is getting viral on the internet. This tweet showed Buterin criticizing the idea behind Unichain.

He claimed that Uniswap’s value proposition is easy trading, so a rollup from the DEX would make no sense.

Vitalik Buterin’s 2022 Social Media Post

Vitalik Buterin shared a post on X (Twitter) on February 9th, 2022, to criticize the idea of the L2 solution of Uniswap. This post has sparked buzz on X, with some calling out Buterin for meddling.

Buterin expressed his skepticism about Uniswap having its chain or rollup. He argues that Uniswap’s primary value is its ability to facilitate quick trades without much thought.

Then, Vitalik Buterin added that creating a separate chain or rollup for Uniswap doesn’t align with this value. This tweet highlights Buterin’s concerns about the necessity of Uniswap’s proposed Unichain.

He has emphasized his preference for maintaining simplicity and efficiency in decentralized exchanges.

Uniswap Officially Announced Unichain Mainnet

Despite this subtle Vitalik Buterin antagonism, Uniswap launched the testnet for Unichain a few days back. Also, we can expect the launch of the Unichain mainnet in a few months.

The core function of this L2 scaling solution is cross-chain interoperability. This solution will help users transfer tokens across different blockchain networks.

Also, it acts as a decentralized validator network at a faster speed. Unichain is built as an open-source blockchain, making it easy for other chains to adopt. It will fix the scalability issues in the Ethereum network.

The Unichain L2 solution will address the challenges of speed and high transaction costs that have plagued the DeFi sector.

For the testnet, Unichain recorded a one-second block time despite its peak target coming in at 200-250 millisecond sub-block times.

Unichain leverages the Optimism Superchain to provide seamless cross-chain transactions and swapping. Uniswap’s Unichain will compete with both L2 networks, Arbitrum and Base.

Impact Of Unichain’s Testnet Launch On UNI Price

Soon after the testnet launch of Unichain, the native token of Uniswap, UNI, experienced a surge in its price.

Its key metrics are on the green side of on-chain charts. At the time of this writing, UNI price traded at $8.19 after gaining 3.94% in the last 24 hours.

UNI token has recorded over 20% increase in market value in the last seven days. Also, its trading volume has seen a considerable downturn, recording a 26.68% drop in the previous 24 hours.

Such a dip suggests a lack of interest or confidence among investors in the short term.

However, there is strong market confidence in the project after seeing the surge in UNI’s price due to the testnet launch of Unichain.
