- Data indexing will fix the low-speed bottleneck for Web3 applications: Pangea CEO.
- Web2 applications outperform DApps in terms of speed.
- The long loading time of Web3 applications results in poor user experience.
Decentralized applications (DAapps) have been the cornerstone of the crypto and the blockchain industry. These Web3 applications gained traction for offering solutions that promise transparency, efficiency, and trustless interactions.
However, they come with flaws — primarily, the lack of efficient indexing. Many Dapps face a persistent issue of speed compared to their Web2 counterparts. This is because they have to organize blockchain data from multiple sources.
Maxim Legg, the CEO of Pangea, recently addressed the same issue. He also emphasized the urgent need for efficient and scalable solutions to this problem.
The Problem – Inadequate Indexing
The Pangea CEO pointed out inadequate indexing is a significant bottleneck for Dapps. This inefficiency affects performance and reduces speed.
He noted that the Web3 applications rely on blockchain data. This data comes from RPC nodes, smart contracts, and other blockchain infrastructure. These sources can generate immense amounts of data.
The data can reach hundreds of terabytes on high-throughput chains and create overload. Accessing it and organizing it efficiently is a hectic task. Left unorganized, it can leave a mess and directly impact DApp speed and user experience.
Per the Pangea CEO, this is not just a minor inconvenience but an insignificant infrastructure problem.
While highlighting the scale of this issue, Legg reportedly stated, “This is not something you want your developers to be dealing with. This is a real infrastructure problem. It can be solved once. It does not need to be solved individually by every single DApp developer.”
The Consequence: Poor User Experience
The modern world expects speed. Users want any application to respond quickly. According to reports, they generally dislike apps that take more than three seconds.
Unfortunately, dapps largely fail to achieve this benchmark. Their load time often exceeds 20 seconds. That is a lot when compared to the traditional Web2 applications.
This long loading response time results in a poor user experience. It does a lot of damage and tarnishes the image of Web3 applications, especially among the youth. Moreover, it drives users away from blockchain-based solutions and innovations.
Centralized Indexing: A Solution
The solution to this bottleneck problem is developing centralized indexing. Without centralized indexing, developers have to go through multiple problems.
They face the issue of slow query responses and deal with an inefficient system that struggles to provide real-time data. This inefficiency is problematic for Web3 applications, which strive to provide a seamless user experience.
The Pangea CEO shed light on the developer’s pain. He emphasized, “Unfortunately, many Web3 developers are forced to build in-house indexing solutions, which are inefficient, overly complex, and time-consuming to develop.”
Companies like Pangea are in charge of solving this issue. These companies provide the necessary infrastructure to process the raw data into accessible formats. As Leg highlighted, “Indexing is the process of organizing this raw blockchain data in a way that it can be effectively recalled later.”
Centralizing the indexing process frees up developers to concentrate on creating cutting-edge apps. They are not required to deal with the intricacies of data retrieval.
