Alliance DAO’s Qiao Wang Sells ETH After 10 Years, Says Ethereum Price And Growth Is Limited
  • Alliance DAO’s Qiao Wang exited ETH after 10 years, citing limited growth and Solana’s rise.
  • Solana leads stablecoin supply growth, surpassing Ethereum and attracting more developers.
  • Data shows Ethereum Layer 2s face adoption challenges, while Solana gains market share rapidly.

Ethereum’s position as the dominant blockchain for developers and decentralized finance faces increasing challenges as Solana gains traction.

Notably, perspectives from Alliance DAO co-founders highlight a shift in sentiment, with Ethereum’s scalability issues and high transaction costs remaining significant hurdles.

Data further illustrates Solana’s growing appeal, particularly in stablecoin supply and financial sector activity.

Meanwhile, Ethereum price stands at $2,678, up 2.2%, while Solana price has surged 5.7% to $208.42 in the past 24 hours.

Market Sentiment Shift Away From Ethereum

Alliance DAO co-founder Qiao Wang disclosed in a recent podcast that he had sold his Ethereum holdings after a decade. He noted that Ethereum’s growth potential appears limited, with its Layer 2 solutions offering only a narrow margin for surpassing Solana.

Wang, an early supporter of Pumpfun and an associate of Vitalik Buterin, emphasized that Solana’s network efficiency is a primary driver of developer migration. He pointed out that Ethereum’s Layer 2 solutions struggle with user adoption, whereas Solana offers faster processing speeds and an increasingly attractive ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Alliance DAO’s Imran Khan stated that Base’s supporters have already begun favoring Solana. Wang responded by acknowledging that transitioning from Ethereum to Solana presents challenges for developers accustomed to Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) environments.

Despite the technical learning curve, he stated that many developers find the move worthwhile due to Solana’s superior user base and ecosystem support.

Ethereum L2s Are Declining

Data further supports these trends. A report on Ethereum’s Layer 2 networks indicates varying cycles, with significant declines across multiple projects.

One Layer 2 solution peaked in early 2024 before dropping to $0.50, while another exhibited brief surges but stabilized around $1.00–$2.00.

The third solution, which peaked at $3.00, entered a prolonged downtrend, signaling weak sustained demand.

A fourth, with a lower market capitalization, showed extreme volatility, reaching $0.25 before declining below $0.10. The overall trend highlights diminishing momentum across Ethereum’s Layer 2 sector.

Solana Leads in Stablecoin Supply Growth

Moreover, market data reveals that Solana has outpaced Ethereum and Tron in stablecoin supply growth. A report from Artemis, ranking blockchains by net stablecoin supply changes, places Solana at the forefront.

The increase suggests heightened activity in decentralized finance applications, transaction volume, and ecosystem expansion.

Ethereum follows closely, while other networks such as Base, BNB Chain, TON, and Polygon PoS also recorded positive stablecoin inflows.

Conversely, networks like Tron, Arbitrum, and OP Mainnet experienced stablecoin outflows, with Tron seeing the largest negative change.

Solana’s Market Share & Expansion

In Q4 2023, Syncracy released an analysis identifying Solana’s valuation as significantly lower than Ethereum’s, despite its scalability and developer traction.

At the time, Solana’s growth potential was largely speculative. However, recent data now reflects a strong market recovery and ecosystem expansion.

As the impact of FTX dissipated and Bitcoin ETF developments influenced the market, Solana’s on-chain economy recorded a notable rise in activity.

Currently, Solana captures a substantial share of retail financial activity. Key advantages such as faster transactions, low-cost asset creation, and seamless mobile access contribute to its increasing adoption.

Solana has also emerged as a hub for speculative trading, mirroring Ethereum’s DeFi boom in 2020. On-chain financial activity, particularly the creation and trading of tokens, continues to gain traction, with Solana attracting developers and users shifting away from venture-backed assets.
