Blockchain has gone mainstream as 60% of Fortune 500 companies are now actively pursuing initiatives that involve the technology. Small and medium-sized businesses in the U.S. are increasingly interested in crypto. Adoption has doubled in just one year.
Major Corporations Strengthen Blockchain Commitment
Fortune 500 firms are rapidly integrating blockchain into their core strategies. This marks a significant shift in how enterprise technology is utilized. Coinbase’s Q2 2025 State of Crypto report says that 60% of these companies work on blockchain projects.

In addition, 20% of their executives have stated that on-chain initiatives are key to long-term strategic planning. This is a 47% increase from last year in strategic blockchain prioritization. This shows increasing confidence in decentralized tools.
The report results from a survey of 100 Fortune 500 executives conducted by EY-Parthenon, commissioned by Coinbase in January. The findings are backed by data from NRG and The Block Pro Research, and therefore, comprehensive.
Blockchain’s potential for broad application is demonstrated by its corporate engagement across sectors such as finance, logistics, and healthcare. Macroeconomic pressures also shape the push and the desire to find secure, efficient data handling and payments.
Over 90% of surveyed executives also agreed that clear regulatory guidance is still essential to blockchain innovation in the U.S.
SMBs See Blockchain as a Financial Solution
The same report also reveals that crypto adoption among U.S. small and medium-sized businesses has sharply risen since 2024. Only one in six SMBs used crypto tools, like stablecoins, one year ago. However, that number has now doubled to one in three.
These businesses benefit from streamlining operations like invoicing, payroll, and cross-border payments. According to the report, 82% of these businesses think that crypto helps solve financial ‘pain points’ that traditional tools do not.
46% of firms do not expect to use crypto except for blockchain in their operations in the next three years. This trend indicates that more and more SMBs are realizing the potential of blockchain in their day-to-day financial operations.
The supply of stablecoins is growing 54% yearly. Also, this adoption is happening alongside that, showing increasing demand for digital dollars. Stablecoins provide stable value, faster settlement times, and lower fees than legacy banking systems.
With inflation and interest rates still pressuring small businesses, crypto solutions are becoming viable financial alternatives.
Institutional Investors Push Broader Market Expansion
The report also noted that institutional investors are ramping up their exposure to crypto assets through 2025. More than 80% of surveyed institutions plan to increase their crypto holdings. They intend to do so within the current calendar year.
The surge in investment implies that big financial entities are starting to see crypto as a legitimate asset class. These investors seek long-term opportunities in blockchain infrastructure, digital assets, and tokenized securities.
Coinbase pointed out that institutional involvement makes the market more liquid and the ecosystem more trusted. Traditional banks and asset managers are also revisiting their blockchain strategies as this development occurs.
President Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance has accelerated momentum in the industry. It also encourages regulatory agencies to collaborate more effectively. Almost 75% of executives believe regulatory clarity will be the next significant growth catalyst for the crypto sector.
Stakeholders closely watch legislative efforts such as the GENIUS Stablecoin Act and the CLARITY Market Structure bill.
Regulatory Outlook and Market Signals
While adoption is rising, a clear regulatory regime is still the top priority for companies and investors. Passing legislation to ensure the U.S. remains a leader in blockchain innovation was important, Coinbase stressed.
Without this clarity, businesses may struggle with compliance issues that could hinder adoption and innovation across sectors. However, as government agencies align with pro-innovation goals, the crypto ecosystem is watching the developments closely.
In the next several quarters, changes in U.S. policy could significantly impact market sentiment and investment decisions. The report calls for swift policy implementation to keep the momentum and to take advantage of the global move towards digital infrastructure.
In addition, sustained interest in blockchain-related innovation was shown by top Fortune 100 companies between 2020 and 2025. Coinbase looked at Web3 initiatives of these firms and found that they are increasing R&D and proof-of-concept launches.
As tools mature, blockchain’s place in corporate growth strategies will continue to grow.
