Bitcoin Wobbles at $102K as Whales Quietly Move $577M

Key Insights:

  • Whales quietly moved over $577 million worth of Bitcoin on-chain
  • Bitcoin briefly dipped below $100,000 before reclaiming $102K support
  • Arthur Hayes says weakness will fade as money printing resumes

Bitcoin price hovers near $102K as whale wallets move over $577 million. Market reacts to U.S.–Iran tensions while analysts see consolidation continuing into summer.

Whale activity surges as price tests key support

Bitcoin (BTC) faced renewed pressure over the weekend, briefly dipping below the $100,000 mark before rebounding to $102,000 in Monday’s early Asia trading.

The weakness followed escalating geopolitical tensions after the United States launched airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. On-chain data shows large wallet holders, or “whales,” moved over $577 million worth of Bitcoin during the 24-hour period following the news.

According to Whale Alert, four separate transactions totaling more than 5,690 BTC—all valued between $107 million and $207 million each—originated from unknown wallets and were sent to newly created addresses. These transfers raised eyebrows as they coincided with increased market volatility and risk-off sentiment.

Bitcoin traded at $101,707 at the time of writing, showing a 0.9% daily gain, according to CoinGecko.

Arthur Hayes sees weakness as short-lived

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes addressed the price action in a post on X, stating that Bitcoin’s dip below six figures “shall pass.”

Hayes argued that the drop reflected temporary market anxiety and reiterated his view that Bitcoin would reclaim its status as a global safe haven. He attributed the rebound to expectations of future central bank liquidity injections.

“More money printing means higher Bitcoin,” Hayes wrote, implying macro catalysts could soon overpower short-term geopolitical headwinds.

Analysts cite $98K–$102K zone as key

Markus Thielen, head of research at 10x Research, identified the $98,000 to $102,000 range as the current battleground for bulls and bears.

In a market note, Thielen wrote that “traders can continue to look for tactical rally opportunities” as long as Bitcoin holds above the short-term realized price of $98,000. A break below that level, however, could shift focus to downside risk management, especially with few bullish macro drivers in play.

Thielen also noted the broader price structure remains in a five-week consolidation phase. The market has seen three failed attempts to break above $110,000, with shocks ranging from tariff disputes in May to the U.S.–Iran escalation in June.

Institutions still buying despite short-term dips

Despite the turbulence, some industry voices say demand remains intact.

Eugene Cheung, chief commercial officer at OSL, said Bitcoin’s resilience following the Iran strikes reflects strong institutional backing.

Cheung argued that even with heightened volatility, structural demand for Bitcoin and Ether (ETH) continues. He pointed to investors positioning around long-term macro uncertainty and the growing recognition of crypto’s role in portfolio diversification.

“Crypto is showing an ability to absorb shocks and maintain a bullish trend,” Cheung said.

Altcoins lag, market cap drops $50B

While BTC steadied above $100,000, the broader market struggled.

Altcoins were mostly in the red on Monday, with the total crypto market capitalization falling by 1.5% to $3.21 trillion, according to CoinGecko. That translates to roughly $50 billion in value wiped out over the previous 12 hours.

Nick Ruck, director at LVRG Research, said the altcoin market could outperform in coming months if macro conditions stabilize. He cited early signs of “divergent strength,” but added that follow-through depends on fresh catalysts.

“Our view is that we consolidate over the summer,” Thielen said, reinforcing expectations for range-bound trading unless new drivers emerge.

Whale moves raise questions amid quiet markets

Bitcoin (BTC) opened the week under pressure, sliding to $98,467 late Sunday following U.S. military action targeting Iranian nuclear infrastructure. The price decline marked its lowest level in six weeks.

The move triggered a short-lived panic. By early Monday in Asia, Bitcoin had reclaimed $101,000 and remained near $102,000 at press time, with a 0.9% daily gain, according to CoinGecko. Despite the rebound, market sentiment remains cautious.

Amid the volatility, four whale transactions totaling 5,693 BTC—worth over $577 million—were flagged by Whale Alert. Each transaction originated from unknown wallets and was sent to new, unidentified addresses.

These quiet transfers, ranging from $107 million to $207 million each, drew attention given their timing and scale. While the intent remains unclear, the lack of associated exchange inflows suggests no immediate sell-off followed.
