The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple Labs have filed a joint request to dismiss their appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. This filing was made on August 15, well ahead of the deadline.
The move kept the earlier penalty against Ripple in place but showed both sides are ready to close the case.
XRP SEC News: SEC and Ripple File Joint Dismissal
The latest XRP SEC news came on August 15, 2025. The SEC filed a report in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Notably, the status report said the SEC and Ripple Labs agreed to dismiss their appeals in the case.
The SEC’s appeal was case number 24-2648. Ripple Labs filed a cross-appeal, case number 24-2705.
The joint stipulation of dismissal covered both cases. Each side agreed to pay its legal costs and fees.

This status report was signed by SEC senior appellate counsel David D. Lisitza and appellate counsel Ezekiel L. Hill.
It confirmed that the stipulation had been filed but was still pending approval from the Court.
The decision to drop the appeals did not affect the earlier ruling of the district court. That ruling required Ripple to pay a $125,035,150 civil penalty.
It also placed an injunction on Ripple, barring the company from violating registration provisions of the Securities Act of 1933.
How the Case Reached This Point
The SEC first filed its case against Ripple Labs, Brad Garlinghouse, and Christian A. Larsen several years ago.
The Commission argued that Ripple sold XRP as unregistered securities. However, Ripple denied the claims and defended the sales of XRP as lawful transactions.
In 2024, the district court issued its final judgment, ordering Ripple to pay the penalty and follow the injunction.
Following the proceedings, Ripple appealed parts of the ruling, and the SEC filed its appeal.
By August 2025, both sides decided to end their appeals. The joint stipulation was the formal step that placed the case back before the appeals court.
The Court still needed to approve the dismissal before it will be deemed final. Earlier in the month, Ripple’s chief legal officer, Stuart Alderoty, said the dismissal marked “the end” of the case.
His comment showed Ripple saw the filing as the last step. The SEC filing, however, stated the dismissal was still pending until the Court approved it
This meant the case remain unclosed, though no further legal challenges are active at this time.
XRP SEC News: What the Dismissal Could Mean for XRP Price
The dismissal of both appeals could point to a settlement path. Since both sides agreed to pay their own costs, it suggested neither wanted to continue the fight in court.
The decision also meant the earlier penalty and injunction remained in place without further dispute.
For Ripple, the focus might now shift to compliance with the court’s order. For the SEC, the step closed another stage in its enforcement efforts.
The absence of an active appeal may also bring clarity to the broader digital asset market.
The development came as XRP price traded above $3. Market data showed the coin moved near the $3.20 resistance level on August 15.
A breakout above that level could bring the August 8 high of $3.3826 back into focus.
If the price falls below $3, analysts noted that support levels around the 50-day moving average could come into play.
It is important to mention that market observers also noted another development.
In his post on X, Steph is Crypto revealed that the Federal Reserve would end a program that increased bank-crypto oversight.

The post called the change a “bullish signal for crypto.” Some market participants also believe that this could strengthen XRP’s bullish price outlook.
