Key Insights:

  • Worldcoin price broke the 20-week MA and started turning upwards, with about a 117% rise in a week.
  • Why the price of WLD soared as monthly active addresses increased from 20,000 to 800,000 over the past 12 months.
  • The altcoin market cap is about to break out at any moment now.

Worldcoin (WLD) surprisingly became another ticker to watch in the much-anticipated final quarter of the year. These 117% weekly gains by Worldcoin saw more traders jump onto the train, as data indicated. Traders expect this performance to be replicated in other altcoins very soon.

The analysis will uncover why analysts thought WLD’s move could unlock the broader altcoin market. Also, Worldcoin price surged by such a high percentage when most cryptos stayed stagnant for about two weeks. This includes the major names like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).

Here’s Why Worldcoin Price Soared 117% In A Week

Over the last 24 hours, Worldcoin has reduced its weekly gains by 9%. The drop occurred against heightened profit-taking activities and macroeconomic headwinds.

The U.S. CPI data sparked fears of a recession. Additionally, skepticism grew around corporate crypto treasuries where Eightco had raised over $270 million for WLD.

The weekly move was more critical, where WLD had surged by over 117%. Worldcoin switched to its own chain, Worldchain. However, most of its operations were on the Ethereum mainnet. The hype around its chain was still ripe.

On-chain data from Token Terminal confirmed the surge in participants trading the token. Monthly active users (MAUs) hit a new peak of 800K from 200K in less than a year. The adoption was exponential as WLD climbed to seventh in this metric across all Layer 2 (L2) blockchains.

The only popular blockchains above it were Base, Optimism Mainnet (OP), and Celo Chain (CELO). The price of Wolrdcoin was also impacted by its collaboration with OpenAI. The two were affiliated through their founder, Sam Altman.

That way, the developments of OpenAI were bullish for WLD. This week, OpenAI and Oracle signed one of the largest deals of about $300 billion to advance computing, per Whale Insider. Worldcoin helps OpenAI develop identification technology.

Worldcoin Soars After Breakout

WLD price chart showed a charge for Altcoin per a post by top analyst Michael van de Poppe on X. The price touched an initial level set for testing by the analysts and reacted from the zone with a reversal.

The reversal was initiated by a W pattern where 20-weekly MA rhymed with the neckline. WLD broke above the moving average after an almost five-month consolidation.

The breakout was energetic due to this fact. The volume was nearly double that of mid-November 2024, the highest since November 2023.

Furthermore, the analyst added that this could happen next in other altcoins. Speaking of this prediction on X, Michael van de Poppe wrote, “WLD is a great example of what we’re about to see on the markets…More #Altcoins are likely to follow along.”

In the comment section, the sentiment was the same for Worldcoin and altcoins. But the million-dollar question was whether altcoins were really poised for a rally?

Why Altcoins Could Be Next?

A dive into more insights from CT echoed this seasonal pattern, as Crypto Rover highlighted by his analysis. The analyst indicated that the crypto market cap, excluding BTC, ETH, and stablecoins, was about to go parabolic.

This was after breaking out of a symmetrical wedge pattern with the target at $1.26 trillion. It is now above $1.10 trillion.

The breakout of Worldcoin could be a precedent for what was building for altcoins as the Fed’s rate cuts drew near. In the meantime, it was great to note that the altcoin market cap was trading around a resistance zone.
