Precious metals, Gold and Silver, are having an unprecedented run with no signs of stopping. For the very first time in history, the silver price has surged past $120/oz, extending its monthly gains to 68%.
On the other hand, the gold price has shot up $5,500, hitting new all-time highs. Amid this historic run-up, both assets have added a combined $6 trillion in just a week. This is twice the entire crypto market size.
Gold and Silver Add Two Crypto Markets In A Week
World’s safe haven assets – Gold and Silver – are making crypto-like moves in January 2026. In just the last 72 hours, Gold has added a massive $3.5 trillion, the entire size of the crypto market. The yellow metal is on its path to become the first asset to hit $40 trillion market cap.
Similarly, grey metal Silver has been on an unprecedented rally over the past week. During this period, the Silver price has surged 28%, adding roughly $3 trillion to its market value. It shows that these two metals are having a major dominance, and cryptocurrencies are nowhere to be seen.
At a $6.6 trillion market cap, Silver is now four times the size of Bitcoin. On the other hand, Gold enjoys a massive 23x premium over BTC. This rally in precious metals as the US Dollar Index is on a sharp decline. As a result, Gold and Silver have been the first beneficiaries of this.
The US Dollar Index has broken a long-term uptrend that has been in place for roughly 15 years. Renewed strength in the Japanese yen fueled the move. The IMF issued warnings about potential risks. It cautioned against a rapid sell-off in US dollar–denominated assets.

Market participants are now watching the monthly close, due in three days. Analysts say a confirmed close below the former trendline could increase the risk of a deeper and more sustained decline in the dollar.
Fed Chair Jerome Powell Dismisses Gold Rally
During the post-FOMC discussion on Jan. 28, Fed Chair Jerome Powell announced that interest rates would remain unchanged. He confirmed the range at 3.5%–3.75%.
This decision signaled the Fed’s cautious stance on monetary policy. He stated that a rate hike is not anyone’s base case. He dismissed the precious metals rally and emphasized the Fed’s current stance clearly.
When asked if the cracks in the monetary policy are leading to a Gold upside, Powell said:
However, both Gold and Silver have continued with their rally, while largely ignoring Powell’s comments.
Will Bitcoin and Crypto Market Catchup With Gold Rally Amid Weak USD
The US dollar is testing a key technical zone that has historically coincided with major Bitcoin bull cycles. Market expert Bull Theory noted that in past cycles, sustained moves below 96 have been followed by sharp advances in Bitcoin.
In 2017, DXY fell under that level before Bitcoin rallied nearly eightfold over the following months. A similar pattern unfolded during the 2020 pandemic.
Heavy liquidity injections weakened the dollar. Bitcoin then surged nearly sevenfold over the following seven to eight months. This liquidity boost also led to a strong rally in altcoins.

The Bitcoin price move often relates to the liquidity pumps. A weak USD reduces the appeal to hold cash for investors and further leads to capital flows into risk-on assets. Analysts say Bitcoin has historically benefited from such shifts.
DXY now sits at a historically significant level. It has broken its long-term structure and remains under 96. This move sets the stage for renewed upside in Bitcoin.
