- Tether minted $2B USDT and sent half of it straight to Binance.
- USDT dominance is going down really fast as the USDT market cap rises, meaning more liquidity is entering the market.
- How will crypto markets respond to this new liquidity?
Stablecoins continued to be deployed in the markets as they exposed news users to crypto while giving them the necessary liquidity.
Tether and Circle are leading with massive mints at a time when the total market cap of stablecoins is at $260 Billion. This cap was just below Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).
However, the minting has escalated lately, especially after BTC made a new high while ETH closed above $3,000 and surged toward $3,500.
Tether Mints $2B USDT, Sends It to Binance & Bitfinex
At the time of press, Tether Treasury minted $2 billion USDT and sent half of this portion straight to Binance. The other half was channeled to the Bitfinex multisig wallet. The activity was done on the Ethereum mainnet, and the gas fees for the transfer to both exchanges totaled less than $4.
This activity showed that stablecoins were becoming the biggest utility coins in the world, with their usage majorly stemming from payments, payroll, and remittances. The motive of these transfers was yet to be established, but sure, it signaled something was in the offing.

With the GENIUS Act set to be presented to the US President for approval, it could open up all digital assets. While its not only Tether that is thriving, the Artemis Stablecoin Map shows other issuers were also gearing up for the same.

This new dawn showed that stablecoins were moving more money than Visa and Mastercard despite accounting for only 1% of global money. The conclusion was drawn from a comparison of the 2024 quarterly transfer volume.
USDT Market Cap Rising as Its Dominance Drops?
More importantly, as the minting surged, so did the USDT market, which was at $160.3 billion at the time of writing. This signaled that more liquidity was entering the markets.
However, despite the rise in capitalization, its dominance was accelerating fast. This suggested that market participants were exchanging the USDT to other crypto assets that had the potential to rise.

Meanwhile, a technical analysis showed that the declining dominance was trading inside a weekly wedge pattern, with USDT dominance at 4.3%. Adding the prediction bit on this, the chart hinted that it could fall toward the 3.7% and 3.5%, fueling a rally on Bitcoin and altcoins.
As USDT dominance dropped, that of other top cryptos was bouncing back. However, its competitor, USDC, was at 1.64%.

For Cardano (ADA), Dogecoin (DOGE), Solana (SOL), Binance Coin (BNB), Ripple (XRP), ETH and BTC, the metric was at 0.71%, 0.82%, 2.41%, 2.67%, 4.64%, 10.50% and 60.98% respectively.
How Will The Crypto Markets React To This Liquidity?
Following the aforementioned liquidity pump from USDT minting, the total crypto market cap also reacted, with the value surging to almost at $4 trillion. The cap accounted for 16,939 coins across 1,316 exchanges.
As of press time, the volume had surged to more than $222 billion, corroborating the liquidity pump usually, a rise in liquidity results in more trading volume, which enables the token movement.

Meanwhile, the altcoin market cap stood at $1.5 trillion, commanding a volume of $173 billion. The drop in the overall stablecoin dominance could result in a rally for altcoins, especially Ethereum.
Lastly, top trending narratives could also be boosted by this liquidity. For instance, the Coinbase wallet has been renamed Base to support the launch of tokens. The upgrade also features payments, which would massively capitalize the stablecoins.
