Kyrgyzstan Approves Bill to Establish Strategic Bitcoin Reserve

8 countries are known to hold amounts of Bitcoin, but only a few of them have established a strategic Bitcoin reserve. El Salvador, Bhutan, and the US consider Bitcoin an explicit strategic reserve. Now, Kyrgyzstan is going to join those nations.

As per the latest reports, the Kyrgyzstan parliament has passed a bill to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve. The Central Asian country will set up state-backed crypto reserves. Thus, it aims to boost the growth of the digital asset industry in the region.

Countries, including the US, China, El Salvador, Bhutan, the UK, Ukraine, the UAE, and Finland, are known for holding huge amounts of Bitcoin. This crypto asset has certain properties similar to reserve currencies. So, it could become a global reserve asset.

By approving amendments to the “On virtual assets” bill, Kyrgyz lawmakers have cemented terms, including “state crypto reserve” and “state mining”.

Bakyt Sydykov, the Economy and Commerce Minister, introduced the bill in the Kyrgyz parliament. The bill addresses various aspects of crypto adoption in the country, and the lawmakers passed it in three readings.

Central Asian countries aim to establish a legal framework for the issue and circulation of tokenized real-world assets, stablecoins, and state-backed crypto mining operations.

As per the Kyrgyz minister, a state crypto reserve is essential for financial stability. A strategic Bitcoin reserve can help the country adopt new accumulation instruments.

How Can Kyrgyzstan Benefit from the New Crypto Law?

Crypto adoption is rapidly growing in Kyrgyzstan. It ranks third after Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in terms of ownership of crypto assets.

The newly passed crypto law will help the Kyrgyz government quickly update its crypto regulations, eventually boosting crypto adoption.

According to experts, Central Asian countries aim to create new revenue sources through state crypto mining operations. A strategic Bitcoin reserve is crucial to support the nation’s economy in the future. Besides, with crypto-friendly regulations, Kyrgyzstan can attract crypto businesses from all over the world.

Why Crypto Reserves are Essential for Emerging Economies?

Several emerging economies are planning to establish crypto reserves, especially a strategic Bitcoin reserve. Offering a new type of financial firepower, crypto reserves’ benefits can go beyond finance and geopolitics.

It is a well-known fact that any specific country’s monetary policy cannot hugely influence the price of Bitcoin. Countries can reduce their reliance on the US dollar or other major foreign currencies by holding Bitcoin. Thus, they can efficiently hedge against currency risks.

Most emerging economies have traditional reserves of foreign currency or gold. As an uncorrelated asset class, Bitcoin can perform well, even when others don’t perform well.

Countries are also creating Bitcoin reserves because this crypto giant can act as an inflation hedge. Its limited supply makes it an ideal store of value in the long term.

It is beneficial for emerging economies like Kyrgyzstan to build a strategic Bitcoin reserve to stabilize the national wealth. The growing crypto sector can give citizens a better alternative to the volatile fiat currency.
