The Ethereum price is consolidating around $4,100 after a period of whale accumulation and mixed technical signals. On-chain data indicates that Bitmine obtained 104,336 ETH for $417 million, indicating some confidence despite the volatility of the past few days. However, analysts caution of possible downside risks with early bearish signals in the higher timeframes.
Ethereum Price Defends Key $3,850 Support Zone
The Ethereum price remains around the $4,100 mark, having defended the $3,850 support area. According to analyst Ted Pillows, this level has become a critical zone determining short-term momentum.
He added that the recovery of $4,250 would signal a short-term uptrend, which could extend further gains to $4,400. Losing $3,850, however, could lead to increased volatility and send prices down to $3,600.

Ethereum has also consolidated recently, suggesting investor uncertainty in a broader market weakness. Despite a weakness in volume, traders remain focused on maintaining the structure above $3,850 to avoid deeper corrections.
Technical indicators suggest that ETH remains in a neutral position, with the RSI trading sideways at mid-range levels. A daily close above $4,250 may open up the door to renewed bullish pressure and open the way to retest $4,700.
Bitmine Buys 104,336 ETH Amid Market Caution
On-chain tracker Lookonchain reported that mining firm Bitmain bought 104,336 ETH for $417 million from Kraken and BitGo. The accumulation took place over 7 hours in 3 wallets, which is a signal of renewed institutional demand.

Such large-scale acquisitions are often signs of strategic positioning by long-term investors who expect to gain from their positions. The transactions indicate accumulation during market uncertainty, as opposed to the hesitancy of retail traders in the face of mixed macroeconomic conditions.
Despite bearish sentiment, long-term holders continue to increase their exposure. Analysts see this as a potential stabilizing force for Ethereum price going into the year-end.
Interestingly, Tom Lee from Fundstrat still projects Ethereum could hit $10,000 by December, based on cyclical recovery potential. His projection still maintains one of the most optimistic in the market, despite slowing down the network activity.
MACD Crossover Raises Concern for Ethereum Price
However, crypto analyst Ali Martinez pointed out that Ethereum is on a bearish MACD crossover on the weekly chart. He added that in the past, similar signals preceded plunges 43% and 61%.
The chart showed ETH price consolidating just above $4,100 with a slowly weakening momentum. The downward slope of the histogram suggests waning buying pressure as confidence in the market softens.

Martinez warned, however, that although short-term support is still intact, the mid-term structure is fragile. If the momentum continues to fade, the Ethereum price could return to $3800 and below.
However, other analysts suggest that macroeconomic accumulation and lower exchange inflows could mitigate any sharp declines. This technical setup is a highlight for ETH in Q4.
Traders are closely watching the crossover for confirmation on the weekly closing candles. A confirmed bearish cross could see increased profit-taking in major altcoins.
Inverted Cup and Handle Forming on Ethereum Chart
Furthermore, analyst Henry spotted a possible inverted cup and handle formation forming on Ethereum’s 4-hour chart. He described the structure as a bearish setup that typically signals a breakdown.

Henry said the $3,800 level might be retested in the near future if the sellers continue to control the price. He stressed that many traders don’t seem ready for such a reversal, citing similarities to past pattern breakdowns.
Despite his bearish bias, short-term rebounds are possible if bulls defend the $3,850 level. The neckline of the pattern falls within that zone, adding to the importance of this zone for Ethereum’s direction.
Henry’s chart also showed several “strong high” signals that did not create sustained rallies, which confirms overhead resistance near $4,250. His bearish position is in contrast to the on-chain optimism from whale accumulation data.
As Ethereum consolidates, traders have been split between bullish signs of a buildup and bearish technical cautions. The next breakout or breakdown is likely to define momentum through November.
