- Peter Schiff invites CZ to debate Bitcoin BTC and tokenized gold’s role as money.
- CZ says tokenized gold depends too much on third-party trust.
- Schiff plans a gold-backed token through his company, Schiff Gold
Economist Peter Schiff has called on Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, to join him in a public debate on Bitcoin and tokenized gold.
Schiff wants to compare which one works better as money, focusing on how each serves as a medium of exchange, a unit of account, and a store of value.
Peter Schiff Calls for Debate on Bitcoin BTC and Gold
Peter Schiff, a long-time critic of Bitcoin, has publicly invited CZ to a debate about the future of money.
In a post on X, Schiff asked who would be willing to moderate the event.
He said the discussion should focus on which asset, Bitcoin or tokenized gold, can best serve the three main purposes of money.
Peter Schiff explained that he believes gold keeps its value better than Bitcoin.

He said that if gold can be traded through blockchain technology, it could be used easily for payments while still retaining its intrinsic value.
He also said that Bitcoin has failed to maintain a stable value, while gold has done so for centuries.
Schiff revealed that he is building a system that will allow users to buy and store gold through his company Schiff Gold.
He said the gold will be stored safely in a vault, and users will be able to send or receive ownership through an app.
The idea is to make gold easy to use for trade while keeping it fully backed by physical reserves.
He added that buyers would not need to sell gold to make payments.
Instead, people could pay directly in gold, and sellers could accept it with lower transaction costs than Bitcoin.
Schiff said this could make gold a practical choice for everyday transactions while still being a reliable store of value.
CZ Questions the Trust Behind Tokenized Gold
Binance founder CZ responded on X, sharing his doubts about Schiff’s idea. He said tokenized gold is not the same as gold that exists fully on a blockchain.
He argued that tokenized gold depends on a company to hold and protect the physical gold, meaning users must trust that the gold will be there when they want to redeem it.
According to CZ, this kind of system brings back the problem of trust that digital assets like Bitcoin are meant to avoid.
He called tokenized gold a “trust me, bro” system because users rely on third parties to manage their holdings.

He said that if those companies change owners, close down, or face political issues, people could lose access to their gold.
CZ also said that gold-backed tokens have never gained strong traction for this reason.
In his post, CZ emphasized that most people who use crypto already know this, but many others do not.
He added that Bitcoin fans prefer it because it runs without banks or anyone holding their money for them.
Will CZ Accept the Debate Challenge?
So far, CZ has not said whether he will take Schiff’s challenge, especially with the latest pardon granted to him by President Trump. Many people in the crypto community are watching to see what happens next.
A debate between the two could provide a clearer picture of how traditional and digital assets might compete or collaborate in the future.
Schiff’s plan to launch a tokenized gold platform demonstrates his intention to integrate real assets with new technology.
It also shows that some investors in traditional markets are starting to explore blockchain as a tool for trading and storage.
Nevertheless, it is not yet clear whether CZ will join the debate, but Schiff’s post has sparked fresh discussions about the role of money today.
Market participants are now asking if real value should come from crypto or from assets like gold that investors can hold.
If anything is clear, both men want a better way for people to keep and move their money, but they see it differently.
Additionally, market watchers are waiting to see if the debate takes place and what it could reveal about where money is headed next.
