Ethereum Price Repeats 2020 Pattern Breakdown Before the Boom?

Ethereum price is once again following its historical pattern of breakdown phases preceding massive rallies. Analysts believe that the existing market structure is similar to that of 2020, which is a signal of accumulation ahead of a potential surge. As whales accumulate and institutional optimism increases, Ethereum price might be on the verge of a massive breakout.

ETH Price Mirrors 2020 Breakdown Pattern

Analyst Trader Tardigrade observed that the 3-day chart of Ethereum resembles the previous cycles in which significant surges followed declines. In 2020, the accumulation phase began with a sharp downward move to around $200 before a breakout. Another sharp push followed soon after 2021, at about $3,000 this time around, and consolidation was over.

The current structure again indicates ETH price falling below a key support level. Trader Tardigrade showed that breakdowns reset leverage and provide new liquidity on strong reversals. He believes this subsequent reset is necessary before Ethereum initiates another long-term bullish trend.

Ethereum’s breakdown pattern shows a trend from panic to accumulation. When the market settles, early accumulation is likely to be followed by parabolic rallies. If this trend persists, the Ethereum price may once again follow the same explosive path as it did following its 2020 rebound. Traders see the breakdown as an opportunity for a larger uptrend this time rather than a bearish continuation.

SharpLink Forecasts 90% Ethereum Rebound

SharpLink Gaming, which is the second-largest Ethereum treasury firm, also anticipates a strong recovery once the selling pressure is exhausted. CIO Matt Sheffield said the liquidation on October 10 was one of the most significant crypto deleveraging events in history. He said it was similar to the post-FTX era when markets bounced back quickly once forced liquidations stopped.

Sheffield also noted that institutional investors are going defensive and harvesting tax losses ahead of year-end. He believed that once this selling has run its course, Ethereum could have a strong comeback, similar to 2022. Based on the previous market cycles, he expects a 90% bounce on renewed liquidity with easing credit conditions.

SharpLink Chairman Joseph Lubin agreed with the prediction, pointing to improving macroeconomic conditions. He said a resurgence of business activity in the U.S. and lower interest rates, which would ease the risk of China, have the potential to drive a powerful recovery. Lubin illustrated Ethereum’s prominent role in DeFi innovation and suggested it remains positioned to outperform as the market resets.

Both executives believe that the recent crash is a long-term buying opportunity. They conclude that due to its strong fundamentals and decreasing leverage, Ethereum is one of the most robust assets in the current environment.

Whales Accumulate Aggressively

Whale activity bolsters the institutional rebound theory. According to Lookonchain, whales staked more than 394,000 ETH, worth approximately $1.37 billion, in just three days. This is similar to accumulation during the bottom of the 2020 and 2022 markets.

Large holders tend to add to exposure during periods of increased volatility, which indicates long-term growth potential. Last week Tom Lee’s Bitmine Immersion also expanded its Ethereum ownership. The whale and fund accumulation are renewed, which suggests that key players are viewing current prices as undervalued.

Ethereum is trading at $3,400, a 3% increase over the last 24 hours. The 24-hour low and high are $ 3,275 and $ 3,479, respectively. However, the trading volume has dropped by almost 50%, indicating a bearish sentiment. Analysts consider this a consolidation phase before a possible breakout, based on historical breakout trends.

Short-Term Outlook: Key Resistance $3,600-$3,700

Meanwhile, analyst Ted Pillows said Ethereum’s recent bounce is mostly short covering, not fresh income. He pointed to the $3,600-$3,700 zone as an important zone of resistance to take back before confirming a bullish reversal. Until that occurs, the probability of a retest around $3,200 or $2,900 is still there.

Despite the weakness in the short term, the overall structure still supports the bullish thesis. Once Ethereum reclaims $ 3,700 with strong volume, the breakout could have a target of $ 4,200 and beyond. Traders anticipate sideways action until the market regains momentum, much like the quiet accumulation seen in 2020.
