Bitcoin price coils between $80K and $100K as leverage reset reshapes market bias

Bitcoin price traded inside a tightening range on Dec. 15, holding near $90,000 after weeks of choppy consolidation. Price action reflected reduced leverage, fading liquidity, and growing tension between breakdown and breakout risks.

This range mattered because the Bitcoin price had now tested several structural levels at once. Analysts tracked compression near trend support, weakening derivatives activity, and clustered liquidity zones that could drive sharp reactions.

CrypNuevo said Bitcoin price continued to behave like a range-bound market. He noted that nothing changed in structure over the past two weeks, despite repeated intraday volatility.

The analyst outlined a broad $99,000 to $80,000 range, with deviations possible on either side. He said price traded “slowly and patiently” as liquidity thinned and momentum stalled.

Range Trading Defined Bitcoin Price Behavior

CrypNuevo said traders should expect range conditions until price acceptance broke decisively. He identified the 1-day 50 exponential moving average near $100,000 as a short-zone trigger.

On the downside, he noted that the $82,000 to $79,000 area served as the primary long-term interest zone. He warned that acceptance below $80,000 exposed Bitcoin price to a deeper move toward $73,000.

He added that liquidity clustered above price near $95,500, increasing the probability of an upside sweep first. According to CrypNuevo, this imbalance slightly favored a short-term move higher before continuation.

He also flagged a new Chicago Mercantile Exchange gap forming near $90,400. He said the gap only mattered if momentum expanded; otherwise, the price could drift sideways.

Falling Wedge Framed the Technical Standoff

Captain Faibik offered a more optimistic technical perspective on Bitcoin price. He said price continued to compress inside a falling wedge pattern, often associated with bullish continuation.

Faibik said bulls still struggled to reclaim the $93,000 resistance zone. However, he noted that repeated retests weakened that resistance over time.

“Once the wedge breaks to the upside, bulls will be back,” Faibik said. He added that a clean reclaim of $93,000 restored bullish momentum quickly.

His view contrasted with CrypNuevo’s range thesis but did not fully contradict it. Both analysts described compression, patience, and a lack of decisive follow-through.

Derivatives Data Confirmed a Leverage Reset

On-chain and derivatives data supported the idea of consolidation rather than panic. Binance data showed a combined funding and open interest Z-score near -0.28.

This indicator measured deviation from historical leverage norms. Analysts said strongly positive readings often preceded overheated rallies and sharp corrections.

The current negative reading suggested reduced leverage and lower risk appetite. Data showed traders unwound high-risk positions instead of adding aggressive exposure.

Importantly, Bitcoin price hovered near $90,000 during this reset. Analysts noted that price weakness occurred alongside easing leverage, not rising stress.

This behavior reduced the probability of cascade liquidations. It suggested the market reset after excess, rather than entering forced capitulation.

Long-term Trend Support Remained Intact

CryptoBusy highlighted a broader structural signal supporting Bitcoin price stability. He said price returned to test a multi-year trendline that held every major higher low since 2023.

According to CryptoBusy, this trendline served as a dividing line between a momentum reset and a structural breakdown. He said price respected the level despite year-end liquidity fading.

He added that Asian session weakness aligned with seasonal liquidity declines, not panic selling. As long as trend support held, he said the market digested prior gains.

This observation aligned with derivatives data showing controlled deleveraging. Together, they framed the pullback as corrective rather than terminal.

Key levels Now Dictated the Next Move

Bitcoin price now sat between clearly defined zones. Resistance clustered between $93,000 and $100,000, where the 1-day 50 EMA and prior highs converged.

Support rested between $82,000 and $79,000, reinforced by historical demand and prior consolidation. Acceptance below $80,000 shifted risk toward $73,000, according to CrypNuevo.

Upside momentum required reclaiming $93,000 with volume expansion. Faibik said that move likely triggered a broader bullish continuation if confirmed.

Until then, Bitcoin price remained compressed inside a high-stakes range. Derivatives data, liquidity behavior, and trend structure all pointed toward patience, not panic.

Traders watched for acceptance, not wicks. The next directional move depended on how Bitcoin price reacted at the range extremes.
