Ripple RLUSD: A “Trojan Horse” For DeFi And Traditional Finance
  • In his recent video, Adam Cochran, a partner in Cinneamhain Ventures, has labeled RLUSD as a “Trojan Horse.”
  • He says Ripple USD can help transform DeFi and traditional banking sectors.

Ripple’s long-awaited stablecoin, Ripple USD (RLUSD), debuted on Tuesday, December 17. However, the stablecoin first made its appearance in June of this year.

Since its launch, this USD-pegged coin has received a lot of praise worldwide. Adam Cochran, a venture capitalist, has also added his voice to the chorus of appreciation.

In a recent YouTube video, Cochran referred to RLUSD as a “Trojan Horse.” He asserts that Ripple RLUSD has the potential to revolutionize the traditional finance and decentralized finance (DeFi) sectors.

What’s RLUSD?

As described by Ripple, RLUSD is a 1:1 USD backed stablecoin. It is currently available to trade on Bitso, Uphold, CoinMENA, MoonPay, and Archax. Short-term US government treasuries, US dollar deposits, and other cash equivalents entirely protect the coin.

Ripple RLUSD offers transparency and stability on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum blockchain. The XRP Ledger is a blockchain as well. Ripple Labs developed it in addition to its native token, XRP.

RLUSD’s affiliation with both Ethereum and XRP Ledger provides it an edge. The stablecoin benefits from Ethereum’s established ecosystem. At the same time, it leverages speed and low transaction costs and provides scalability for the XRP Ledger.

A Trojan Horse for Transformation: Adam Cocharan

Adam Cochran is a YouTuber and a partner at Cinneamhain Ventures. Cinneamhain Ventures is a specialized venture fund. Recently, in his YouTube channel named “AdamOnFinance”, Cochran posted a video on RLUSD.

The video’s title was “Why RLUSD is XRP’s Trojan Horse into Banking and Why You Likely Missed It!.” In the video, Cochran pointed out RLUSD’s potential to disrupt the financial landscape.

In his own words, “Ripple quietly dropped a bombshell and no one’s really talking about it but it could dramatically revolutionize the position of Ripple in the marketplace.”

According to him, RLUSD is unique from the other stablecoins in the market. The difference is that Ripple RLUSD adheres to stringent regulatory compliance. Moreover, it is subject to regular audits.

He stated, “RLUSD isn’t just another USDC clone; this is more into the original Paxos stablecoin that’s NYDFS regulated, custodian issued, backed by secure cash assets.”

By integrating RLUSD into the ecosystem, Ripple can bridge the gap between traditional finance and blockchain technology.

He emphasized that the stablecoin could be a key to unlocking vast multi-trillion dollar Forex markets on the blockchain. With the help of RLUSD, this could easily be achieved without the need for advanced technological upgrades.

He explained, “This stablecoin is going to unlock the ability for real-world asset (RWA) issuers, Forex issuers, currency issuers, and other programs to be able to price on a native AMM their assets in the US dollar.”

Strategic Edge Over the Competitors

Ripple’s approach to regulatory compliance can provide RLUSD with a strategic edge. Unlike its competitor, Ripple RLUSD is set to stringent monetary transfer licenses. This makes it more appealing for banks and institutional investors.

While emphasizing regulatory compliance, Cochran mentioned that Ripple should try to get its MA compliance approved and be offered in the EU. This way, the company can bring the stablecoin into the diverse market.

“They have a great opportunity to get these providers to integrate Ripple’s Network by offering them on-chain yield and sharing of that yield,” he said.

This strategy aligns with Ripple’s upcoming features like Hooks and an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain. That aims to enhance RLUSD’s programmability and DeFi capabilities.

“Ripple still really needs hooks and their EVM sidechain to perform well, get the programmability in place to be able to offer more sophisticated DeFi products,” Cochran commented.
