- RBLX’s Stock price fell 23.26% in a week and 28.15% in a month but gained 1.90% YTD.
- The sharp drop can be attributed to a decline in bookings and inflation.
Roblox Corp. released earnings on August 9 2023 with RBLX stock dropping 23%. Dow Jones, S&P 500, and NASDAQ fell 159, 19 & 110 points, respectively. The online gaming platform could have done better for Q2 bookings but failed to do so. Additional factors for the fall were depleting demand for online games and fierce competition in the market.
Roblox Corp. (RBLX Stock): Why it Dropped over 20%?
The recent drop is the most significant in the last 10 months which eroded every gain of 2023. The whole video game industry is struggling to keep its head out of the water, mainly as gamers are wearing away from spending on games due to inflation, which caused them to become selective spenders.
Roblox operates a metaverse, a virtual space allowing people to play games and make transactions. The company has 65.5 Million daily active users with plans to reach 1 Billion soon. Their popular games like “Adopt Me!” & “Brookhaven” registered a net booking of $780.7 Million in Q2 2023, while the analysts predicted them to have $784.9 Million.
However, the bookings gained 22% year-over-year (YoY) and reported $639.9 Million in Q2 2022. Also, this quarter, users spent over 14 Billion hours playing, which is a YoY jump of 24%. Despite this jump, Roblox reported a net loss of $282.8 Million which was $176.4 Million in Q2 2022.
The net loss surged as the expenditure to support the growth increased. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Roblox increased its spending on infrastructure and talent. Its CEO David Baszicki says that the booking growth will soon surpass the infrastructure spending in Q3 2023; this should help Robolx Corp’s financials.

Roblox Corp. (RBLX) Stock: Candle Exploration
The sharp drop pushed the price to its 52-week low. If the bearish trend continues, the share price could test the $25.32 mark. If the price would break and form a new low or bounce back north cannot be certainly determined for now. Also, the RSI at 24.81 entered the oversold zone and foreshadowed a slight jump.

If the trend reverses, the price must cross the immediate resistance at $34.10 to gain slight momentum. It also should sustain above the point to be strong enough to cross R1 at $40.70; for the next few trading sessions price could consolidate in the expected range.
