From Classics to Play-to-Earn: Non-Casino Game Recommendations to Win Crypto

Many people view cryptocurrency and the blockchain as a form of financial investment. Still, a specific demographic of cryptocurrency users enjoy crypto as entertainment. If you’re a gaming enthusiast, you may have heard of the new battle royale game Off the Grid.

This game recently became the first big blockchain gaming title for the PlayStation 5. It is also available for free to play on other platforms, including PC. Besides, it is a classic battle royale third-person shooter similar to predecessors PUBG, Fortnite, and Apex Legends.

This game boasts incredible graphics running on the latest Unreal Engine 5. It is also under the creative care of sci-fi film District 9’s writer and director, Neill Blomkamp. Set in a dystopian cyberpunk world, players can join player-vs-play (PvP) or player-vs-environment (PvE) game modes. The player can battle it out to extraction. What makes Off the Grid stand out, of course, is its blockchain integration. It allows players to opt in and mint rare in-game items such as weapons and armor as non-fungible tokens (NFTs). They can trade and sell those items with each other.

Off the Grid marks a significant shift in the growing crypto gaming world. It focuses on non-casino titles that may be more accessible and engaging for a wider audience. Still, it’s not the first of its kind. Many options are available for crypto and gaming enthusiasts to entertain themselves while earning cryptocurrencies. Below, we’ll recommend some non-casino games where you can earn and win crypto:

Crypto bingo

If you’re not in the mood for poker or other casino card games, then bingo might just be for you. Branching away from typical casino games, bingo is still extremely popular across the world. Most people are familiar with the format. Thankfully, crypto gaming is becoming popular with every passing day. Moreover, online bingo games where players can bet crypto have become more and more accessible.

Crypto betting platform Thunderpick offers a variety of crypto bingo games, including themed ones like Bingo Soccer and Halloween Bingo. Thunderpick also provides different types of bingo for hardcore bingo enthusiasts. They can access games from 90-ball to 75- and 30-ball bingo, depending on how long you plan on playing. The betting platform hosts casino bonuses for players, including a first deposit and first bet bonus to welcome new players. Players also get daily giveaways and an invitational VIP club with potential rewards like priority withdrawals and other unique gifts.

Virtual pets

Another popular non-casino play-to-earn game involves raising virtual pets. Virtual pet and breeding games have long dominated the crypto gaming and pay-to-earn segments. They belong to various categories, genres, and gaming styles. Players use some virtual pets for battle-related gameplay, like turn-based card gaming, fighting, and racing. There are also more casual and cozy play-to-earn virtual pet games. In those games, players can simply focus on raising their pets and collecting resources to earn.

In a previous post, we highlighted the virtual cats game, Catizen. The blockchain-based game was launched on encrypted messaging platform Telegram in 2024 and runs on both TON Network and Mantle Network, blending elements like GameFi, artificial intelligence, the metaverse, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to create a cutesy and engaging gaming experience. Aside from managing their own colony of virtual cats, players can also complete daily tasks and minigames on the Telegram app to gain additional rewards such as Fish Coins and bonus vKITTY, both of which are in-game tokens that can be converted into CATI tokens — the game’s primary cryptocurrency.

Arcade games

While casinos and card games remain popular today, other gamers seeking a more engaging or colorful crypto-gaming experience may miss the challenging nostalgia of retro arcade games. Fortunately, even this gaming genre has long penetrated the crypto gaming market.

In 2022, Instant Leaderboard Payout firm Haste Arcade closed its $1.5 million seed round, far exceeding the initial $1 million target. Haste claims to be the first company offering performance-based payouts in the form of Player Cards NFTs and focuses on a competitive gameplay experience where players are rewarded for getting on the leaderboard. Currently, Haste Arcade acts as a blockchain gaming platform that remains open to game developers looking to publish their crypto arcade games. The platform also offers its own software developer kit (SDK) for game developers to streamline the development process and integrate games easily onto the platform.

Crypto chess

Like bingo, chess is a classic and traditional enough game that most people know the basic rules. For crypto enthusiasts and more experienced chess players, however, crypto chess presents a viable opportunity to earn and win cryptocurrency by playing chess games. It’s a fun, high-stakes twist on a game that is commonly played at a slower pace while still retaining its highly competitive aspect.

Partnered with Chess.com, the play-to-earn chess game Anichess was released in 2023, blending classic chess rules with magical abilities with game-changing and game-breaking potential through each round. Players are encouraged to think of new strategies using magical abilities like freezing one of the opponent’s pieces or hiding the opponent’s clock to score the coveted win. CEO and co-founder of developer Lympo stated that the game’s concept is to put a twist on the traditional chess experience while delivering “an action-packed blockchain chess experience” accessible for both advanced and casual or lower-level chess players.

Play-to-earn RPG

Finally, one of the most crucial aspects of play-to-earn games today is that they require some level of “grinding” for players to earn in-game assets or tokens that can be converted into crypto or used as boosts or upgrades in-game. That sets the stage for RPG games where leveling up and upgrading your character plays a big role in being able to win.
One such play-to-earn RPG is Sipher Odyssey, which recently entered its Open Alpha phase to reveal the multiplayer looter shooter action RPG (ARPG) to gamers and crypto enthusiasts. Set in a dream-like universe of alien worlds called Sipheria, players are exposed to fast-paced ranged and melee combat mechanics as well as various rogue-lite elements such as procedurally generated levels and progressively challenging gameplay. Players can explore dungeons, face enemies and bosses, or play in the Arena mode to climb the leaderboards and win rewards.

Ultimately, betting and winning crypto games doesn’t mean you have to restrict yourself to virtual casinos and poker cards. With the accessibility and added convenience of not having to leave the house, the various crypto-gaming genres discussed above are great alternatives for those who like to play games casually, with the potential for earning crypto on the side.
