Since the rise of cryptos, Ethereum has become the second most popular cryptocurrency on the market. Initially, Bitcoin only surpassed it, but things changed a lot for Ethereum in 2024 and 2025. That’s why it’s important to know the price predictions and tendencies this decentralized coin will likely undergo.

Ethereum’s History in the Crypto Market

While Ethereum was created in 2013, its eight founders only released it in 2015. It started trading for less than $1 and was the first digital currency to implement smart contracts. Within a year of release, its value boosted from below $1 to just over $10, which is impressive for a new crypto coin.

Unlike Bitcoin’s Proof of Work mechanism, Ethereum used a Proof of Stake consensus mechanism. Ethereum wasn’t simply considered a decentralized network but a platform ideal for building and developing decentralized applications. As such, Ethereum played a large role in introducing dApps to the market.

Betting Online with Ethereum

As Ethereum became more popular, its uses in markets other than finance also started growing. One such market is online casinos. With the creation of cryptocurrencies, many crypto casinos also came into existence.

Many casinos started out solely as Bitcoin online casino sites, but Ethereum also soon became a regular payment method. If we look at the market shares cryptos have in online casinos, you’ll see that:

  • Bitcoin has a market share of over 45%
  • Ethereum follows with a 25% market share
  • Litecoin has a 10% market share
  • Dogecoin trails behind with a 3% market share

Ethereum’s Pricing Fluctuations at the Start of 2025

Ethereum entered 2025, valued at around $3,451.39, which was part of its upward trend at the time. However, it only lasted until about January 5th, when it peaked at $3,634.10 before dropping down again.

Since then, Ethereum has been experiencing a downward trend, recording a value of around $2,628.72 on February 9th. While writing this article, its price was $2,715.54.

However, if you look at its weekly and daily fluctuations, you’ll see it’s currently experiencing an upward trend. For example, it’s shown the following gains or losses recently:

  • Monthly Loss: 16.26%
  • Weekly Gain: 0.59%
  • Daily Gain: 2.56%.

Still, these currencies are extremely volatile, and the current value of these cryptos can change instantly. Several factors can influence these changes.

Blockchain Challenges That Can Influence ETH

One of the biggest challenges blockchain currencies like Ether experience is regulatory challenges. A better-regulated environment can lead to more people purchasing Ether as the trust in these decentralized currencies grows.

However, other factors can also influence the value of this currency. Recently, Ethereum dropped to a low of around $2,100. Instead of seeing less value in the crypto, many investors saw it as an opportunity to purchase more of it.

As such, the weekly Ethereum-based deposits have outpaced Bitcoin-based deposits for the first time this year. Part of this mass purchase of ETH was due to a tweet made by Eric Trump, who stated that it was a great time to add ETH.

As the use of Ethereum grows, so does interest in it. These days, it’s not only online casinos like Bety that accept Ether as a valid payment method. You can also use Ethereum to pay at stores like Shopify, Bitdeals, Gyft, and Starbucks.

Predictions for Ethereum’s Future in 2025

Despite Ethereum’s less-than-stellar performance from the start of the year till now, many believe this will be the year this crypto blows up. However, there are various factors you should consider to understand the predictions for Ethereum’s pricing.

The Spot Ethereum EFTs

The US SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) regulates various aspects of the financial market to prevent fraud. These include investment advisors, securities exchanges, brokers, and more.

At the start of 2024, it approved spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which increased interest in cryptos. In May 2024, Ether finally received permission to trade on the Nasdaq and NYSE, revitalizing investor interest in this crypto.

Pectra Update and More

The Ethereum network is planning a Pectra update in the first quarter of 2025. This update will focus on enhancing wallet usability and transaction costs, which can even result in lower transaction costs. Further, it will continue to expand its selection of dApps and DeFi to keep a solid grip on the market as one of the leading cryptos.

Does ETH Correlate with BTC?

Ethereum has the highest correlation with Bitcoin among the major cryptos. As such, you’ll often see them rise and fall simultaneously.

Historically, Ethereum’s correlation with Bitcoin was between 0.85 and 0.95. While the correlation dropped slightly since the start of 2023, it’s still around 0.82 at the moment. As such, Ether will likely continue to rise in price as Bitcoin does.

It’ll also indirectly profit off the increased interest Bitcoin has experienced since Trump’s inauguration as the 47th US president. That is partly due to Trump’s intention of creating a Bitcoin reserve for the US government.

Will Ethereum Hit a New All-Time High?

Ethereum’s current all-time high was a value of $4,721.07, which means Ether’s value has to almost double to surpass this. However, many still believe it’ll reach a new all-time high in 2025.

With a correlation of almost 82% between Bitcoin and Ethereum, there’s a chance that it can rise astronomically this year. Some experts predict that Bitcoin will increase by around 150% this year. Taking the correlation into account, that means an almost 125% gain for Ether.

As such, there’s a good chance that Ethereum will reach a new all-time high of around $5,000. However, anything more than that is uncertain. Currently, $5,000 is just an 89% gain away, which is entirely possible with the changes the crypto market is undergoing.

Investing in the Future of Ethereum

Now might be the time to invest in Ethereum, as it’s still at a relatively low price compared to Bitcoin. However, it also has a good possible gain, though nothing is guaranteed. At the moment, Ethereum is climbing in value on a weekly basis, so it might not be long before it overtakes $3,000 once again.
