Key Insights:
- Traders expect Bitcoin below $100K, but sentiment shift hints otherwise.
- Futures data shows reduced leverage, easing bearish pressure on markets.
- Bitcoin consolidation near $111K could fuel breakout toward $120K.
Bitcoin (BTC) hovered near $111,494 on Sept. 10 as sentiment turned sharply bearish. Traders warned of a slide below $100,000, while analysts pointed to conditions favoring a breakout above $120,000.
The opposing signals highlighted a market locked in consolidation under $113,000. With open interest flattening and speculative leverage cooling, Bitcoin entered what researchers described as a “balance phase.”
Traders Turn Bearish as Sentiment Shifts Negative
Analytics firm Santiment flagged a surge in bearish expectations across social media.
“Traders have changed their tunes, swinging more and more negative,” the firm posted. It noted calls for Bitcoin to fall below $100K and Ethereum under $3,500.

After weeks of stagnation, the warning reflected a period of fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD). Santiment argued that markets tend to move opposite to crowd consensus. That made the bearish swing an “encouraging sign” that the feared retrace may not materialize.
The firm tracked keywords such as “selling,” “lower,” and “bearish,” which dominated conversations as prices drifted. Historically, spikes in negative sentiment have preceded local recoveries.
Market Balance Suggests Breakout Potential
While traders braced for a downturn, futures positioning told a calmer story.
Bitcoin researcher Axel Adler Jr. reported that open interest had flattened. Leverage had declined, showing traders stepped back from aggressive bets.

“The market has entered a balance phase where neither buyers nor sellers are in control,” Adler said.
Momentum data supported his claim. Bitcoin’s score improved from −8% to −5% in one week, signaling bearish pressure had eased. Once weighed down by persistent selling, the Integrated Market Index steadied near neutral levels of 45–50.
Adler compared the current structure to Q2. Then, Bitcoin consolidated around $80,000 before rallying from a $74,000 low. With one-third of the halving cycle completed, he said similar conditions may now be forming.
Liquidity Bands Mark a Critical Test
Alpha Extract highlighted Bitcoin’s test of the fair value Global Liquidity Bands at $111,700.
“Keep a close eye on this,” the firm wrote. “Confirming support here would signal early positive price movement.”

Liquidity zones have often acted as staging points for larger trends. Traders viewed the $111,700 level as pivotal, where sustained support could mark the beginning of an upward push.
The silver lining, Adler noted, was fewer overcrowded long positions compared to earlier rallies. That reduced the risk of forced liquidations, creating more room for volatility once demand returned.
Consolidation Phase Fuels Diverging Narratives
For cautious traders, the lack of direction justified scaling back risk exposure. For others, it mirrored healthy “cooling” phases that typically precede stronger moves.
Adler stressed that “fewer aggressive bets” meant the market was preparing for a larger adjustment. If positive momentum builds, Bitcoin could reclaim $120,000, he argued.
At the same time, Santiment’s bearish crowd data showed many doubted that outcome. Traders betting on a slide below $100,000 remained vocal, reinforcing the divide between sentiment and positioning.
Historical Context Shapes Expectations
Bitcoin’s cycles often involve sharp retraces before extended climbs. The latest halving, completed earlier this year, has placed the market at a critical juncture.
Adler suggested the current “repair zone” may represent the final stage of post-halving consolidation. If so, Bitcoin could soon leave behind the stagnant range that frustrated traders since August.
By contrast, Santiment’s data showed many still feared another deep retrace. The sentiment gap underscored uncertainty in a market prone to sharp reversals.
The Path Ahead
The standoff at $111,700 marked the battleground for Bitcoin’s next move. Support at this level could accelerate a recovery, while failure may renew selling pressure.
Santiment framed the current FUD as bullish contrarian fuel. Adler highlighted reduced leverage and balance, pointing to a market ready for change. Alpha Extract drew attention to liquidity bands, calling them early positive momentum indicators.
The coming weeks promise volatility whether Bitcoin revisits $100,000 or breaks toward $120,000. Traders will watch sentiment and liquidity signals closely to determine which narrative proves correct.
