Gold Loses $3.3T in Capital as Bitcoin Reclaims $115K: Is Recovery Underway?

Gold and Bitcoin (BTC) continue to draw attention from investors, who have been divided on which asset is the best to acquire in the current financial setup. In recent months, BTC has been trailing behind gold; however, the sentiment may be shifting.

Bitcoin reclaimed the $115,000 price mark after gold lost more than $3.30 trillion from its market cap. As a result, stocks, Bitcoin, and some cryptocurrencies rebounded, but is this an affirmation of capital rotation?

Gold Losing Massive Capital: Why?

The price action chart of gold in the hourly timeframe showed that the metal had lost more than 11% of its capitalization since hitting new highs. The $3.3 trillion was equivalent to about 1.5 times the market cap of Bitcoin.

The chart showed gold dropping from levels above $4,380 to around $3,891 at the time of writing. This followed a double top, a bearish reversal pattern, at a peak zone around $4,380.

Ever since, gold has been making lower highs and lows. The situation worsened after the precious metal dropped below the range between $4,030 and $4,200. The drop indicated that gold’s market structure was bearish, leading to a loss of capital. Additionally, it was a common tendency that repeated when asset prices hit new peaks.

However, a return to $4,200 in gold’s price could invalidate the bearish breakdown moving forward. The impact of this loss of money from gold’s market capitalization was felt in Bitcoin and stocks. Gold lost about 1.31% on the day, the largest decline among the popular assets.

Potential Reaction: Impact on Stocks and BTC

The entire financial sector, which fluctuated differently, felt the impact of gold’s capital loss. Bitcoin rose to $ 115,000, increasing by 0.72%. This gave the crypto markets some optimism. The drop in the price of gold per ounce indicated a fall in the safe-haven demand. Therefore, the capital was gradually shifting to these risk-on assets.

According to Ted Pillows, these fluctuations indicated that stocks were gearing up for a rebound, despite the small downward adjustments. The futures market for popular U.S. stocks was up, with Nasdaq up by 0.35% and the S&P 500 up by 0.25%.

On the other hand, the Volatility S&P 500 Index (VIX) decreased by 0.76%, indicating that the market was not particularly insecure. These trends in the pre-market were a sign that there was a possibility of a new high in the stock market.

The confirmation of capital rotation, especially to cryptocurrencies, was evident from the whale activity.

Capital Rotating to Crypto: Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana See Inflows

The data from Whale Insider ascertained this view with Bitcoin, Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL), among others, benefiting. On that note, a smart trader who had a 100% win rate on BTC increased their position to about $250 million.

As if that was not enough, the trader also opened two other orders with 10x leverage for ETH and SOL, which totaled $196 million and $1.9 million, respectively. All these confirmed that capital was flowing into crypto, sparking discussions of a potential recovery.

In conclusion, the capital lost in gold was a hint that it was shifting into risk-on assets, such as stocks and Bitcoin; thus, a recovery could be underway. However, more confirmation and synchronization in these sectors was essential to prevent overreaction.
