Key Insights:

  • Morgan Stanley filed an S-1 for the Morgan Stanley Ethereum Trust, adding ETH to its latest crypto ETF lineup.
  • The prospectus allows limited ETH staking and in-kind redemptions, while exchange, ticker, and fees stay open.
  • World Liberty Financial swapped WBTC for about 770 ETH as traders watched $3,200 support and nearby resistance zones.

Morgan Stanley filed an S-1 registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for an Ethereum trust. The ETH ETF, called the Morgan Stanley Ethereum Trust, would hold Ether and track ETH’s spot price. A preliminary prospectus dated says shares are expected to list on an exchange. The filing arrives after recent paperwork for Bitcoin and Solana products, extending the firm’s crypto ETF push. Details on the listing venue and ticker remain undisclosed.

Morgan Stanley Ethereum ETF Filing Details

The prospectus describes Morgan Stanley Ethereum Trust as a passive vehicle that aims to track ETH price, after fees and expenses. It outlines that investors can gain Ether exposure without directly buying, holding, or managing ETH themselves. Shares represent beneficial interests in the trust and are intended to trade on an exchange once approved

Several basic details remain open in the document. The filing uses placeholders for the exchange and ticker, and it does not name a custodian. It also notes that the registration statement is not effective yet, meaning shares cannot be offered until the SEC process advances.

The document also outlines the process for creating and redeeming shares. It includes in-kind creations and redemptions, allowing authorized participants to exchange shares for ETH under defined procedures. The prospectus does not list management fees, leaving pricing terms for later updates.

Prospectus Points to Staking and a Wider Crypto Lineup

Additionally, the prospectus allows the trust to stake a portion of its Ether through third-party providers. Staking rewards, net of costs, would be reflected in net asset value under the stated framework. Risk language also covers staking events such as slashing, validator downtime, and third-party performance.

Service-provider mechanics also appear in the filing. The document outlines the use of authorized participants and other counterparties for creation, redemption, and routine operations. It also states that sponsor fees, custody costs, and other expenses can reduce returns versus spot ETH.

The latest Ethereum ETF filing follows Morgan Stanley’s earlier S-1 submissions tied to spot Bitcoin and Solana. As reported earlier, the bank filed for Bitcoin and Solana ETFs as U.S. spot crypto funds keep expanding.

Morgan Stanley also issued a Jan. 6 statement on its initial crypto ETP registrations, signaling a broader product buildout. Morgan Stanley Investment Management reports $1.8 trillion in assets under management or supervision, while Morgan Stanley’s wealth arm manages about $8.9 trillion in client assets.

World Liberty Financial Rotation Puts ETH Price Levels in Focus

Meanwhile, on-chain data also pointed to a separate ETH allocation move by World Liberty Financial. Posts circulating alongside settlement screenshots said an address linked to the entity swapped about $2.5 million in WBTC for roughly 770 ETH through CoW Protocol settlement contracts. Other trackers described additional WBTC withdrawals from Aave followed by further WBTC-to-ETH swaps.

The rotation appeared as ETH cooled after a strong run. One chart shared with the update showed ETH price printing its first red daily candle after six consecutive green sessions. The same chart framed $3,200 as key support, with bullish structure continuation if ETH price holds above that level.

Upside targets on Ethereum price prediction start near $3,255 and extend toward a higher resistance band around $3,678 to $3,702. A push through that zone would bring the next overhead supply area into focus above $3,700.
