HYPE Price Near Record as Whales and ETF Buyers Accumulate

Hyperliquid is drawing fresh whale and institutional demand after HYPE reached a record $89.60 on September 6. The token traded near $85 on September 7, leaving price roughly 5% below that peak.

On-chain data shows several large buyers adding HYPE despite the recent rally. Trader 0x3305 bought 194,210 HYPE worth $16.79 million across ten consecutive days, according to Lookonchain.

These buys are increasing since Hyperliquid Labs got into advanced talks with Payward, Kraken’s parent company, over a possible U.S. market entry. Concurrently, President Donald Trump has separately said his administration wants Hyperliquid brought into the U.S. in a compliant manner.

Whale Accumulation Builds After HYPE Price All-Time High

Another large wallet has also kept buying while holding a much larger position. On-chain reports linked the wallet to a suspected A16Z-associated institution, although that connection remains unconfirmed.

The wallet spent $66.4 million on 816,000 HYPE at an average price of $81.30. The address later transferred an additional $13.05 million in USDC for further purchases via a TWAP strategy.

The address now holds about 5.201 million HYPE, valued at nearly $445 million at the time of reporting. The wallet’s average entry was around $67.20, while the entire position was reportedly staked.

Institutional ETF Exposure Adds Another Demand Source

Traditional financial firms have also gained exposure through U.S.-listed Hyperliquid exchange-traded funds. Bloomberg Intelligence analyst James Seyffart compiled the first quarterly ownership disclosures for three HYPE ETFs.

Thirty known institutions held combined positions worth $74.9 million as of June 30. Those holdings represented exposure of about 1.15 million HYPE, although 13F filings report positions with a lag.

Wealth High Governance led the disclosed positions with about $23.95 million, while OLP Capital held roughly $10.50 million. UBS, Bank of Montreal, and Jane Street were also among the five largest disclosed holders.

Token Unlocks Remain a Supply Risk for HYPE

Whale buying has developed alongside a large vesting schedule, which could add new HYPE supply during the coming months. Hyperliquid had a modelled 9.92 million HYPE core-contributor tranche for September 6.

However, only about 433,000 HYPE were claimed during that distribution cycle, according to Tokenomist data. That amount represented roughly $36.6 million and about 0.19% of the circulating supply at the time.

Another 9.92 million HYPE tranche is scheduled for October 6 under the modelled core-contributor schedule. Tokenomics.com also lists a separate 14.18 million HYPE release for September 29 across scheduled allocations.

Actual contributor claims have often remained below modelled monthly amounts, so scheduled unlocks do not equal immediate market sales. Still, larger claims could increase available supply if recipients transfer tokens onto exchanges.

Can HYPE Crypto Extend Its Breakout Above $89.60?

HYPE broke above a multi-month resistance zone near $74 to $76.50 before reaching its September 6 record. That former resistance now forms an important support area if the token experiences a deeper pullback.

The current setup follows a strong August advance from the low-$50 region. Buyers then cleared $76.50 and pushed HYPE into price discovery, while recent pullbacks remained above the former range.

The nearer technical support sits around $81.50, while the chart places the first overhead resistance near $93.50. A break above that level would bring the psychologically important $100 region and the $99.50 chart target into focus.

According to the chart, the HYPE price is eyeing $105.50 as a key resistance level after $99.50. However, the setup depends on HYPE holding above the former breakout zone during any correction.
