Key Insights:
- Short-term holders are exiting Bitcoin, while long-term holders continue accumulating.
- Bitcoin’s market sentiment shows signs of divergence as short-term losses slow down.
- Analysts predict significant upside potential for Bitcoin despite current market volatility.
Bitcoin’s recent price fluctuations have ignited market discussions, particularly after the cryptocurrency’s sharp decline of approximately 15% over the past week. As the price dropped from around $88,000 to $74,400, analysts closely observed shifts in investor behavior.
Notably, short-term holders (STH) appeared to capitulate, exiting their positions in panic, while long-term holders (LTH) demonstrated confidence by increasing their positions. These contrasting actions are sparking a reevaluation of the current market dynamics and what this could mean for Bitcoin’s future trajectory.
Long-Term Accumulation
Recent data from CryptoQuant reveals significant divergence in the actions of short-term holders and long-term holders. On April 7, short-term holders saw a notable $10 billion decline in their realized price, marking the largest single-day decrease in this cycle.

This drop likely reflects a transition of more than $9 billion to long-term holders. The STH cohort faced a significant loss of nearly $1 billion, suggesting a widespread panic sell-off. Meanwhile, long-term holders were undeterred, increasing their realized cap by $9.7 billion, signaling a large-scale accumulation despite the ongoing price pullback.
This shift from weak hands to strong hands is evident as STHs continue to shed their Bitcoin holdings, while LTHs step in with increasing conviction. On April 8, the pace of STH losses slowed significantly, with the cohort shedding just $693 million, signaling potential exhaustion of the panic selling phase.
Long-term holders, on the other hand, continued their accumulation, adding $1.13 billion to their cost basis. This behavior aligns with historical patterns seen during the late stages of corrections or the early phases of a market recovery.
Bitcoin Falling Wedge Pattern Hints at Potential Bitcoin Breakout
Bitcoin’s price behavior continues to draw attention from market analysts, with various technical indicators suggesting potential bullish movements despite recent volatility. According to Captain Faibik, the ongoing pattern of a falling wedge and bullish divergence on the daily chart remains intact. If Bitcoin bounces from its current level, it could retest the major trendline resistance around $83.5K, setting the stage for a potential rebound.

Other analysts are also paying close attention to Bitcoin’s price structure. Gert van Lagen, a well-known market analyst, highlighted that Bitcoin is still in a bullish market trend. He pointed to the recent bounce off the neckline of a four-year-old inverted head and shoulders pattern, suggesting the cryptocurrency could target as high as $300,000. However, he cautioned that a weekly close below the $74.8K level could invalidate the current bullish outlook.
Meanwhile, Philip, a prominent analyst on TradingView, pointed out that Bitcoin has been showing strength in comparison to other market assets, even as traditional stock markets face declines.
Philip’s analysis suggests that Bitcoin could be on track for significant price growth, with potential targets ranging between $170,000 and $220,000. He emphasized Bitcoin’s historical ability to break above key resistance levels and retest them as support, a pattern often followed by bullish surges.
Market Sentiment and the Fear & Greed Index
CryptoRank, a leading research and analytics platform, has also been tracking Bitcoin’s cycles in relation to market sentiment. Their analysis highlighted that the Fear & Greed Index entered the “greed” zone earlier than expected in this cycle, well before the upcoming halving event.

This leads to a very fundamental question: has the formation of the Bitcoin bull market started and peaked at an earlier stage in comparison to previous cycles? Or is this a typical dip in the bull market that has been ongoing for months? Analysts are watching closely to determine whether this early surge in sentiment marks the end of the bull run or simply a brief market correction.
Carl Moon, a prominent crypto analyst and founder of The Moon Show, remains optimistic about Bitcoin’s prospects. Moon has opined that there will be a “huge bounce” for Bitcoin, regardless of the current bearish sentiment.
Separately, he says Bitcoin’s market cycle, particularly when experiencing high volatility, can best be understood through sentiment shifts. Moon has previously forecasted Bitcoin reaching $500,000, and a 100x return on selected altcoins this year.
