Tesla stock price has stumbled recently, as investors remain concerned about its revenue growth, market share losses, valuation, and the fuel emission credits revenue in the US.
TSLA has dropped by 13% from its highest level in July and 35% from the year-to-date high. This article highlights some of its top challenges and explains why Nio stock is a better alternative to buy today than Tesla.
Tesla Stock Price is Facing Major Headwinds
The Tesla stock price has stumbled as it faces numerous challenges. Its recent results showed that revenues continued falling in the second quarter.
Tesla’s revenue plunged by 12% in Q2 to $22.49 billion, continuing a trend that has been building since last year. This decline is mainly because of the growing competition in the EV industry in key markets like China and Europe.
Worse, Wall Street analysts believe that the company will continue slowing this year, with the average annual revenue estimate being $92.78 billion, a 5% drop from what it made last yar.
There are signs that the company’s performance will be worse than expected because Donald Trump is ending the EV subsidies that made Tesla vehicles affordable.
Most recently, the Big Beautiful Bill he signed introduced new rules, including one that will affect a key part of Tesla’s business: climate credits.
For a long time, Tesla has been making money from carbon credits by other automakers. In the last quarter, the services and other segment made $3 billion in revenue, a 17% increase.
There are signs that this revenue source will be cut off. In a recent statement, Rivian said that this change will cost it $100 million a year, meaning that Tesla’s costs will be higher.
TSLA Stock Valuation Concerns
Tesla share price faces other headwinds. A major one is the fact that it is one of the most overvalued companies in Wall Street. It has a price-to-earnings ratio of 200, which is high for a company that is no longer growing.
In contrast, NVIDIA, whose business is dominating the artificial intelligence sector, has a P/E ratio of less than 50.
TSLA stock attracts a high valuation due to the ongoing hype surrounding robotaxis and the Elon Musk factor.
Why Nio Stock is a Better Buy than Tesla today
There are three main reasons why the Nio stock price has more room to go than Tesla today. First, the chart below shows that Nio stock has formed a golden cross pattern as the 50-day and 200-day moving averages have crossed each other.
This is the first time in many years that Nio share price has formed this golden cross pattern. In most cases, this pattern normally leads to more gains, mostly in the double digits.
Nio stock has also formed an inverse head-and-shoulder pattern. It has recently crossed the neckline of this pattern, meaning that it has more gains to go.
The distance between the neckline and the head section is 45%. Measuring this same distance from the upper side gives the target price at $7.67, much higher than where it is today.

Nio stock price will also beat Tesla because of the launch of the ES8 SUV, a new more affordable SUV selling for the equivalent of $43,000 in China. This launch comes a few months after it unveiled the popular L90 vehicle.
Nio has also launched the Firefly model, which is another affordable brand. These product launches will help it compete better than other companies and grow its revenues.
Finally, Nio is on a path towards profitability in 2027 or 2028. The average estimate of the loss per share by analysts is CNY 8 this year, followed by CNY 6 next year. Analysts expect the company’s revenue to grow from CNY 89 billion this year to CNY 116 billion in 2026.
To sum it up, Tesla is a slow-growing and highly overvalued electric vehicle company that is facing major challenges, while Nio is a fast-growing company that has more room to grow in China and other countries.
